Kanishka, the under-19 captain and one of the best batsmen Nepal has, would miss cricket for next five years if his college Loras College in Iowa reject his request to present himself a week later than the scheduled date.

“I have requested the college to give me a week,” Kanishka said. “My term start on August 28 and I am expected to be at the college on August 20 for the freshmen orientation.” If the college rejects, Kanishka will fly on August 18.

“I would have loved to play in the ACC Trophy because it’s a very important event for Nepal,” the batsman said. Kanishka has been representing the country in various age-group and senior team since 2000.

He is also the first cricketer of the country to reach 1000-run mark in the U-19 international and such was his batting in the Youth World Cup, Sri Lanka earlier this year that cricket’s biggest website, CricInfo listed him among the young players to watch in the World Cup 2007 despite knowing that Nepal isn’t playing in the event.
