All those gains of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup

Nepal’s aim to get the first international men’s cricket title under a Nepali coach failed, just by a whisker. And again the nemesis was Afghanistan. Having worked under the shadows of former Sri Lankan International cricketer Roy Dias, Jagat Tamata’s wishes to do that will have to wait for some time now. Following the loss, most media reported on the lines that Nepal´s dream of lifting the title of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup cricket was shattered as they were handed a 61-run defeat by arch rivals Afghanistan.

Next is what!

A few days ago, a fellow journalist, in a reaction to a facebook posting of mine, asked me a question, “What will happen to Nepali cricket after Roy Dias is gone? Would it collapse along with his farewell?” A few of my other friends scoffed at it. A few were angry, while a few thought the comment was insane. What impact can a single man make to the whole sector? A reasonable assessment… Perhaps pragmatic approach… For this approach makes you continue, even after a minor debacle…

Well Done Girls!

The Dashain could not have started better for the cricket lovers. For the eve of it has been good. For the first day of the festival has come after three consecutive victories for Nepali women. That’s a good omen, even if we’re talking about the age group players. It was a delight to keep eyes to the websites that showed scores for the event (No the cricket sites are not too keen on covering women’s cricket live!), as you could see the matches heavily tilted towards our girls.

Good bye, Roy!

If you’ve followed this week’s sports pages and talk shows on TV closely, it would appear as if Nepali cricket is about to change. The scenes are changing and changing fast. We are about to see the departmental teams (Police Club and Armed Police Force) in cricket. There are now 8 cricketing regions, up from existing 6. Not much needs to be said about the departmental teams and their contribution to Nepali sport. And to everybody’s excitement, APF have announced their intentions for the domestic league by signing the top names in Nepali cricket already.
