The Curfew Cricket Team

In Cricket Talk — By Uzwal on Saturday, January 21, 2006

Friday witnessed a full-day curfew in the capital city due to political reasons. The political events wasn’t good for ‘cricket at field’ as the Vice-Chancellor Running Shield Inter-College Tournament at TU Ground was postponed after the organizing TU Free Students’ Union people were arrested on Thursday. One of them being Bhim Shreesh, the match-refree for the tournament.

However, the curfew gave cricket enthusiasts of the town a funtime with the game as they could use the empty roads for their game. Here is a Curfew Cricket Team posing for a photographer during their match:

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council has a team story on Ireland for the U-19 Youth World Cup. Ireland is the first round opponent for Nepal:

To start with, Ireland have been drawn in Group D, a group that looks, on paper at least, to be wide open.

It does contain England, semi-finalists two years ago, but they are hardly brimming with confidence after losing all 11 matches on their tour of Bangladesh before Christmas.

And with Zimbabwe, something of an unknown quantity at this level after their recent internal strife, and Nepal, which was hardly stretched in winning the Asian Cricket Council U/19 Cup last November to complete the line-up, it is a very tough group to predict.

The NepalCricket.com blog has an excellent photo of children playing cricket in the street, following a curfew which left the roads empty….
