Nepal’s batting flattered once again as Oman registered a 12-run victory in the ACC Twenty20 Elite Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Dipendra Chaudhary took three wickets to restrict Oman to lowly 112/9 in 20 overs but Hemin Desai’s hat-trick wrecked Nepal’s top-order to bowl out Nepal for 100 in 19.1 overs. It was Oman’s third victory and Nepal’s second loss in three matches.
Winning the toss, Nepal elected to field first. That decision paid off as Oman went down to 21/3. But Ghazanfar Iqbal (37), Sultan Ahmed (23), Adnan Ilyas (12) and Syed Amir Ali (11) helped team score three-digit.
Dipendra, who took 4 wickets a day earlier, was at his best again taking three wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs while left-arm spinner Shakti Gauchan who shared new ball with Binod Das got 2/22. Binod and Basant Regmi took a wicket each.
Nepal’s reply was disastrous as Dipendra was gone in the first over after hitting two fours off the first balls and then being bowled by Awal Khan. Then it was Hemin who grabbed a hat-trick taking wickets of Mehboob Alam, Sharad Vesawkar and Dipendra Chaudhary to make it 16/4.
Hemin first bowled Dipendra with a slower delivery and took a return catch to dismiss Mehboob with the last two deliveries of the first over. He then bowled Sharad Vesawkar with the first ball of his next over.
Gyanendra Malla (20) and Basant Regmi (26) stablize Nepal’s innings although the asking run-rate was going high but they could not continue long.
As the match was looking dead, former captain Binod hit two sixes and a four for his 10-ball 21 to give some hope but it all went in vein as Awal undid him. Awal finished with 2/16 while Syed Amir and Khalid Rasheed each took two wickets.
Nepal’s chance of qualifying to the semifinals now remains mostly on the mathematical calculations. Nepal will play Qatar after a day’s break.
“It’s pity that the senior and experienced guys failed to achieve such a target,” lamented coach Roy Dias. Dias expressed surprise over the selection of shots made by his senior boys.
“Our spinners did exceptionally well but pacemen were a total dissapointment,” added the coach. “The dismissal of the first two wickets (Dipendra and Mehboob) was turning point of the match,” said Dias.
Skipper Paras said he was shocked by the way his team batted. “It’s horrible batting. Our bowlers did their part but I have not seen such a poor batting in last five-six years,” said Paras. “We should clear our mindset before thinking of the remaining matches,” he added.

We have to improve our batting guys which is our weak point. In 20-20 we have to bat first after winning toss and score over 160 in board rather than choosing fielding first. The next is mentally you have to confidence, what is happening to middle order? Hope you will not repeat this again. Best of luck for all.
why paresh is not playing? is he injured then why they dont asking for another regular opening batsman. and the team combination also too worst. and i think this is gulli cricket team of nepal.
This was quite predictable coz they couldn’t bat well from the time they participed in international level. The game they won was only due to balling but in today’s format of cricket without good batting one can’t win the game. But CAN doesn’t seems to realize the fact.Batting well once in a full moon isn’t going to solve the problem. So I hope board members will really going to take this seriously and focus on batting…batting…batting and only batting.Good luck for world cup division-5….
hey gyes this is not good. We are always waiting for good result but the truth comes better. we are too weak in batting.112 score in T20 is nothing and the oponent team oman was also weak.
we are waiting u gyes to play world cup, but this process will not take us to that point. comeon show our strength. Mehboob, Paras, Paresh, Gyanendra, Sakthi, Binod and Basanta wake up.
yesto talle india lai pa6i kasari haraune ta???????????????????????
113 in 120 balls, we should have won that.
In any other part of the world, th eCoach with such dismal result would have long gone. WHAT HAS ROY DIAS WON WITH SENIOR TEAM FOR NEPAL IN RECENT MOMOREY?
our batsmen play cricket sitting infront of TV screen and watching the match,Nepali team coach Dias told media pre-tournament that our players have learned a lot watching T20 format on TV,he was appointed 10 years ago to improve Nepali batting which hasn’t and CAN also seemed to be uninterested to improve it,without arranging any competitive tournament, only tournament CAN organises being the selection tournament. How can our players standard increased watching cricket on TV or practising in net only?
We are out of this tournament before playing two matches. My best of luck to Nepali team for the coming WCL Division-5 and this is the team whom with we are expecting Nepal to play ICC WC 2015,there needs a lot of will and effort from all sides.
Relativeness and the lack of. Well trained killing neplese cricketer.
I am not going to blame the players at all. As mentioned before, we don’t have enough match practice to win matches. CAN is getting money from all over the place and it is going to their pockets. In my opinion, Dias have been bribed by our official for not to talk. When he was there first, he used to debate for the welfare of cricketers but now i don’t hear things like that. He is negative towards the players. Common CAN, do something for the player for God sake. Make this happen so that we can reach the land mark.
now its time of cricket players and cricket fan to do something. both binay raj and roy should be sacked
No good diet, u cannot make physical comperison to other countries, no internatinional pratice match before any major tournament like this, only four game in delhi will not benifit nepal, i think coach ROY Dias dont know about anything about t20 format.
Please can change coach now, its time to say good bye to roy dias, now we r losing game with countries to whom we beatting with huge runs.
WE NEED NEW TECHNIC
CHANGE COACH
bardan dai i dnt think roy has been bribed but ts jus he is getting accustomed to the environment….when situations get out of hand they are 2 types of teople.1 who will jus bear with the problem cause they are sick and tired of telling what shuld be done and nothing has happened..so they will jus go with the flow.2 a guy who will create chaos by opposing and stand up for their rights as well as other ..i guess poor roy falls under category 1…he knws nthn gonna happen even if he tries …..only he may lose his job…
Bante, i totally agree with you. U know that we all played for the same country and we still have that feeling of winning for the Nation. Dias is a good coach but i think his hands are tied since nothing is going to change no matter how much he speaks and he can not put his job is jeopardy.
Regardless of who Nepal brings in as a coach, it is not going to change anything until CAN changes. That is the hard truth and we all have to live with it.
what can we say about the Nepali cricket. we all are totally hopeless after saw the performance of our guys. nobody know that who was wrong , players or coach or CAN. all of these created goes to CAN. they are unresponsive about Nepali cricket.
NOW , THE FUTURE OF NEPALI CRICKET IS ON THE HAND OF GOD . HE NEED TO DO SOMETHING TO SAVE THE NEPALI CRICKET.
we are looking forward to win the match but our guys were doing opposite. what did ROY get from senior team after gave limit technical tips to our player.
firstly, Malaysia, Oman likes team were following us to get victory but now vice- verse. can we will win WCL DIVISION 5
Two defeats and one win sums up Nepal’s mediocrity. Apparently the two defeats can be attributed to complacent batting despite tidy work by the bowlers. No doubt batting has been our Achilles’ heel so far.
Unquestionably, the batters are yet to display grit, confidence, resilience and commitment to win matches
The latest setback has pushed us perilously close to another huge disappointment. Only lady luck can come to our rescue assuming everything goes our way. Most importantly we have to win all remaining matches.
As a fan I feel dejected and sorry for players at the same time. I don’t buy the idea that they threw away their wickets needlessly. I feel it is a case of technicality and frame of mind.
However, when one represents the country it is imperative that he/she gives one hundred percent There is virtually no room for sluggishness and inconsistency on part of players.
Already long time coach Dias has been scapegoated for the looming debacle. Should we bid adieu to him is debatable. Long as it is in the interest of Nepali cricket , why not ?
Cricket Association of Nepal has to make the best use of its available resources through sincere and professional governance, coupled with a clear vision to develop the game.
this is so much sad after haired Nepal loss the match vs Oman . this is so difficult to digest by Nepali’s fan. we were having the dream that nepal will play ACC T20 final in sharja cricket stadium. but this is just remaining dream ? can we will able to see nepal won ACC t20 final ? there is very dough full.
Well… a very dissapointing day for Nepal. Almost out from the first round of the tournament. I happen to read the interview given by Roay Dias this morning and also the comments all above. Finally, I conclude that there is no problem with the coach, no problem with the players. The problem is with CAN. All our blamings on Mr. Roy alone is unjustice. Just view the structure of Nepalese cricket. Junior players do good but not the senior. The main reason in my view is:-
1) Junior players will not have stepped into the burden of their future life. They are still young to think all about this and they are helped in everything from their guardian. So they can motivate themselves in playing and they play as pleasure and for name.As a result good results.
2) On the other hand, senior players are grown up. They are forced to think about the future and their family. They know that CAN are not helping them ample to think about their future. They cannot wait for the league held in Kathmandu once in a year and the rest of the year just wait till the call up comes from CAN.So they are frustrated, not motivated, they feel that they have no future in this cricketing field. As a result no intention, no motivation, no confidence and due to this lose matches as we lost the other day.
Well, unless CAN manages something better for the players. The same is going to happen. Internationally, we are criticised that our batting hasnt worked from the very beginning. Now almost for 10 years, we have been told that we need to improve batting but why isnt CAN doing anything on these.
Well I feel CAN has to realize this. How can they ask ICC or ACC for funds for developing cricket in Nepal with this kind of performance. You are losing all the goodwill earned in past 10 years. Nothing good has been done in the past 10 years, except for collecting some sponsors and getting medals. That is not the goal. The goal is transforming Nepal into a developed cricketing Nation. So wake up CAN…. its morning now…
Barely had we emerged from the relief of nail-biting finish against Kuwait and hoped Nepal would improve its batting in the following game, the subsequent shattering loss against Oman has left us shell-shocked!!! Once again, the bogeyman of batting blues has been the undoing for the Nepali side. Restricting opposition side for a paltry 112 was a remarkable job until batters frustratingly poured cold waters over the hard work of bowlers….The batters’ responsibility was to bat resolutely and pace their innings calmly since the target was not a daunting one. Surprisingly, it seems our batsmen were in a state of frenzy and panicky state of mind that instead of playing cool and normal cricket, they lost focus and offered the game to the opponent on a silver platter….Perhaps, the ecstatic feeling of restricting the opposition side to a paltry total may have germinated the element of complacency or butterflies feeling which cost us the game. At a time, when there is so much at stake in any competitive games, most of the countries also appoint a specialized person, who helps in mind management of the sportsmen. Although this may sound absurd in our fledgling cricket nation where cricket is still an amateur game, it is time if concerned blokes would think on this aspect as well. My dear friends, batting, batting and batting is the mantra of this 20-Twenty Cricket Format. The earlier our friends understand the better is it for future performances….. With this loss, Nepal has all but squandered possibility of making it into the last 4 stage unless it wins both the games convincingly and some arithmetic factor comes into play. Now with a day-off, the captain, players and coach should do serious soul-searching and ensure victory no matter whether we make it to the last 4 or not……
Meanwhile, reading comments of cricket aficionados clamouring for change in Coach and CAN’s inept functioning, it seems these blokes are frustrated and venting out their inner feelings, which is quite a natural thing. As far as change of coach is concerned, I do not think merely changing coach would do wonders for Nepali cricket. On the contrary, whatever major achievements Nepali cricket has attained it was during Roy Dias’ tenure. In the age-group, his coaching has helped Nepali cricket reached its zenith in the non-test playing south East Asia region. Moreover, he’s applying the same coaching methods to the age-group players and senior-players while coaching, so you cannot say he is not doing his job properly. By the way, at the senior-level, what baffles me most is that coach Roy Dias being predominately a pure batsman infectiously batting should have been our forte; on the contrary, it is the bowling department; which is ruling the roost!!! The failure of senior cricket team is attributable to many other factors namely:- lack of exposure to different playing conditions in other countries on a regular basis, regular competitive cricket matches at home, anxiety amongst players for employment, lack of incentives, departmental ineptitude, clear-cut cricket development programmes, etc. Besides, apart from obvious anomalies blighting senior Nepali cricket set-up unless there is a strong motivating factor involved, we cannot squarely blame the present team players for the current performances. Whatever our current players are doing in their utmost capacities and available resources, I reckon it is fine and we have to accept it without any qualms, to say the least. Having said this, ultimately, it is CAN on whom the responsibility of seeing cricket development rests upon. So sooner CAN understand this fact, the better will it be to nip the bud of complaints pouring in from so many directions !!!!!
oh!!!!!!!!! god !!!!!!!!! whats happend to nepali batsman ,112 score in T20 is nothing and the oponent team oman was also weak.
