Spinners bowl Nepal to win over Qatar
Spinners shared eight wickets to bowl out Qatar for 96 runs in 20 overs as Nepal registered a six-wicket consolation win in the ACC Twenty20 Elite Cup on Thursday.
With Thursday’s results, Afghanistan and UAE from Group A and Oman from Group B have confirmed their berth to the semifinals. Kuwait is certain to qualify.

Only a couple of super-miraculous results could put Nepal or Malaysia ahead of Kuwait in the net run-rate. Kuwait’s net run rate after four matches is +2.95 while Nepal is at -0.20 and Malaysia at -0.21.
At Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Qatar won the toss and elected to bat first.
They lost opener in the first over as Binod Bhandari ran Habib Zada out in Binod Das’ over. Binod bowled other opener and captain Umer Taj (8) in the match’s third over to make it 10/2. Irfan Hussain and Tamoor Sajjad then partnered 38 runs before the spinners started dominating.
Hussain topscored with 32 in 39 balls while Sajjad got 19 in 21 deliveries. Left arm spinners Shakti Gauchan and Basant Regmi got each one of them and four more.
Shakti finished at 3/19 while Basant was even better finishing at 3/11. Off spinner Sanjam Regmi took the last two wickets as Qatar failed to reach three-digit.
In reply, Nepal reached the target in 18.3 overs losing four wickets. Gyanendra Malla scored unbeaten 39 while Dipendra Chaudhary got 28.
Mehboob Alam (10), Paresh Lohani (9) and Paras Khadka (8) could not do much. A Khan spearheaded Qatari bowling with two wickets.
Nepal meets Bahrain, a team without a win in four matches in the last match, on Saturday, Nov 28, at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village.
Nepal has every chance to finish third in the group and compete against the winner of the match between Saudi Arabia and Singapore for the fifth place.
Kuwait unofficially confirmed their places after a big win over Bahrain. They chased Bahrain’s 174/5 in 12.3 overs losing just a wicket with Khalid Butt scoring 142 not out off 53 balls with 18 fours and 10 sixes. Oman confirmed their berth by defeating Malaysia by 35 runs after scoring 197/5.
In Group A matches, UAE defeated China by 209 runs after scoring 236/5 and bowling them out for 27 in 15.1 overs. Afghanistan beat Saudi Arabia by 8 wickets chasing their 72 in 8 overs. It was fourth win in four matches for both the teams.

this win against qatar i think is a useless win. this is just a face saving win. if nepal is to enter semi final than only hope is run rate counts incase kuwait loses against oman tomorrow n run rate comes into play. For that Nepal should have gone aggressive in batting from the first ball today , Even it doesnt matter in doing so they lose the match coz winning in the 18th over is worst than losing by that aggresive attitude. coz in both the cases nepal aint going to reach semi final. Kuwait chased 176 in 12.3 overs, by which their run rate will be too high.
its really sad to see the lack of mental strength n lack of killing spirit in players n coach. just hope that nepal thrashes bahrain with huge margin n oman too does the same against kuwait. n i know its unlikely.
god bless nepali cricket.
The victory over Qatar is only a consolation win of nepali team.Oman is already through to semifinal accumulating 8 points from Group B.In case Oman defeats kuwait tomorrow then only nepal’s chances of advancing to semifinal survives.
Assuming that Nepal defeats Bahrain and Malaysia defeats Qatar tommorrow, Kuwait,Nepal and Malaysia all will have 6 points. In that condition only Kuwait qualifies for semifinal,it has superior net runrate than Nepal and Malysia.
congrats for this win over Qatar!!! Hope they qualify for the next round…. all the best!!! \m/.
Group B
TEAM PW L Pts NRR
Oman 4 4 0 8 2.18
Kuwait 4 3 1 6 2.95
Nepal 4 2 2 4 -0.20
Malaysia 4 2 2 4 -0.21
Qatar 4 1 3 2 -1.22
Bahrain 4 0 4 0 -3.48
Simple Calculation on Nepal reaching semifinal:
Oman Vs Kuwait:Oman bat first has to score 200 runs and restrict kuwait at 100 runs.
Nepal Vs Bahrain:Nepal bat first has to score 242 runs and restrict Bahrain at 100 runs.
If above both equation is true plus Malaysia doesn’t get better runrate than Nepal,Nepal will quailfy for the semis.
Here is how, Nepal will have a slight chance to qualify for Semis..
Oman must bit Kuwait so that they will end up with points. Nepal must win Bahrain and get 6 points.(Has to maintain some good run rate, bat first and score at least 150s) Qatar must bit Malaysia.
Let keep our finger crossed…wait n see.
Cheers!
its poor cricket, nepal need to work very hard in its batting.
still bad bat performance but the roy diaz must b sacked immediately!!!
GO ROY GO
WE DONT WAN U ANYMORE
GO ROY GO
WE DONT WAN U ANYMORE
Still a poor performance. They should have won the match in 10th over. Its really pessimistic. I don’t think we can hope to see Nepal in W’cup in this way. Anyway good luck for the future.
I think we need to play fearless cricket..the charm of Nepali cricket has gone!!
everything is so out there now whom should we blame for the same performance(player, management, coach..) and to be honest I guess the solution is out there too (poor batting we losing match and good batting may be we could be the best and win matches…)
i think our problem in batting besides lack of international exposure is number of all rounders in the team.we dont need all rounders in our team at present. we have quality bowlers in our team so all the all rounders should give up their all rounder tag n practise batting day night long. After u hone ur batting n feel u r a real batsman than u can give a little thought on being all rounders. So, guys learn from the mistake , just keep batting, whenever u r free get hold of the bat and hit the bowl.
i guess this is how we can cure our batting woes. This is what we call in our medical profession symptomatic treatment.
God bless nepali cricket.
After a plethora of outbursts from cricket aficionados for Nepal’s inept batting resulting all but knock-out from the hope of making into the last 4 stage, eventually, the boys have pulled up their socks and registered a clear victory against Qatar (A clear victory in the sense that a win against Kuwait was decided on a Bowl-Out and not otherwise). With only one game in hand against Bahrain tomorrow and possibility of making into the last 4 stage hanging in the permutations of other teams’ performance apart from registering a convincing victory has put Nepali players in a state of perplexity. By now, the players must have learnt the hard way that in a competitive level, the margin of error is minuscule. The poignant 12 runs loss against Oman has proved too costly to our side. If only they had won this game, the scenario might have been different with the chances of making into the last 4 stage by winning the game against Bahrain convincingly. Alas! Now not only Nepal had to win, but also other teams’ margin of victory and loss will have bearing on Nepal’s chances; which means it’s a remote possibility. Nonetheless, whatever is the situation; the boys have to focus on tomorrow’s game and ensure they win the game convincingly, and hope for some miracle.
i’m talking about today’s match between nepal and bahrain.
If nepal had won the toss and elected to bat first then it was a blunder mistake by nepali team management as nepal is out of the semifinal before match is played.
Even if nepal take all bahrain’s wickets on score 0(zero),and score 1 run target in first ball their netrunrate will be +0.99,and required run rate to reach semifinal is +1.44541.
The only way Nepal could have reach semifinal was bat first.i don’t know whether the team management did the calculation or not,if not it was their mistake.Sorry Nepali team, unlucky this time too.See u playing in Kathmandu 2 months later.
Nepal Seeking the way to the world cup whose performance is degrading day by day.We can see the examples of the Afganistan,The dont have a single good cricket stadium in there country but they are playing well but why can’t we?
If Nepals dream is worldcup then they need to do more.I don’t need to say anything theier performance in Elite cup T20 speaks clearly.
