Mahesh Chhetri and Anil Mandal played a partnership to cherish long as Nepal beat Singapore by seven wickets at Unity, Kuwait to inch closer to the semifinals of the ACC Trophy Elite 2010.

The openers stood a 135-run partnership, the best ever partnership by Nepali batmen, as Nepal chased Singapore’s 216 with 40 balls remaining.
The match was one the most anticipated matches of the tournament for it was thought to the decider of supremacy of the two teams after crowd trouble helped Nepal progress to World Cricket League Division 4 at expense of Singapore.
With Singapore posting a good total, Nepal needed a solid batting performance for the victory. Anil and Mahesh ensured that the solidity came as early as possible hitting half-centuries.
They made better the 130-run fourth-wicket partnership between captain Paras Khadka and Sharad Vesawkar against Fiji at TU Ground earlier this year. The best opening stand was 125 held by Mehboob Alam and Paresh Lohani against Maldives at TU Ground in 2003.
They batted 26.5 overs to ensure an impressive win. Anil, who hit his second half-century in his fifth match, got 83 off 93 balls with seven fours and a six. Man of the match Mahesh scored 87 off 111 deliveries with eight boundaries. The scores were individual best for both of them.
Paras got out in 8 in 13 balls with a four but Sharad Vesawkar (18 off 38 balls) and Dipendra Chaudhary (9 off 6 balls with two fours) completed the formality. Saad Janjua, Pramodh Raja and Philips Childs took a wicket each for Singapore.
Earlier, Singapore won the toss and elected to bat first. They started well with Chetan Suryawanshi and Buddhika Mendis adding 66 runs for first wicket. Nepali pacers – Mehboob Alam, Amrit Bhattarai and Paras – failed to get any breakthrough.
Basant Regmi gave the breakthrough as Suryawanshi gave a catch to Amrit at 32 in 15th over. Although spinners tightened the screw on scoring, they found it hard to get wicket.
Mendis made 36 off 72 balls before running himself out. Munish Arora (31 off 55) and Childs (40 off 55) continued the batting domination as Singapore raced to 143/3 in 34 overs. Nepali bowlers and fielders worked hard to get four wickets for 25 runs in next seven overs.
Janjua (29 off 22) and Dharmichand Mulewa (17 off 17) got some runs under pressure but the acceleration attempts resulted in run-outs and the innings ended at 216 in 49 overs.
The result of the match ended Singapore’s chances of proceeding as it was their third loss. With third win in as many matches, Nepal now is at the top of the table. A series of unfavorable results, including a loss against Kuwait on April 6, could only put Nepal out of semifinals.

congrates Nepal, its a deserving win. keep up wining streak.
of course it is so interesting match with Malaysia afganistan bowlers showed their international experience and use that today
congratulation guys and all support for Nepalese cricket now this time to celebrate
Mr Attapattu,
I doubt this is the same team that played in Nepal in division 5.I had expected much more than this especially from bowling department but dont worry win and loss are the part of game and best of luck for your future.
mr. nawaraj…its not always wise to be dependent upon bowling itself. we know that nepal’s core strength is their bowling. but how can we always rely of it all the time? well, ok, nepal although restricted singapore below 220. this doesnt mean that our bowling perfomace was as bad as u had expected it to be. but the perfomance that the batters todays has shown proves that nepal doesnt have only its bowling strong but also the batting and this must boost our bloke’s confidence a lot in their upcoming matches.
hey guys y r u supporting Singapore mates……………… they had said we Nepalis don’t ve standard to play cricket………..I m proud of my team today who showed which team doesn’t have standard to play……….
Well done guys, keep it up,today our Nepalese guys realy played well cricket with a record of opening patnership.
Now I am sure we will grab the trophy.
Keep on wining Nepal………………..now you boys have to win over Afgans……………..prepare yourself…….u have time too.
well mr raj. cricket is not about one match. every match is different. so to think afgansthan is nothing could result in despair. we cannot over or underestimate our opponents. afgans as as good as they were. thats why they have the odi status and not us. so, we have to think by placing some limitations over us. we cannot exceed that limitation otherwise the result could not be as quite as u desire!
Afghanistan is nothing now…they are over confident and nepal can take advantage of this…we already saw how Afghanistan is now in tthis tournament,,,,OK!!!! afganistan is better in T-20format but not in 50-50 match….come on nepal its time for revenge…weare facing afganistan on semi and prove them ” EVERY DAY IS NOT SATURDAY”’ ….. COME ON GUYS!!!!! LETS SUPPORT NEPAL….go nepal go…..

ya, we have now the confinece and blessing from pashupatinath and we now have to show our true abilility ….jai nepal
CHEERS TO THE NEPALI CRICKET AND THE NEPALI FANS. VERY WELL GUIDED VICTORY I WOULD SAY. THIS NOW MAKES CLEAR THAT OUR BATTERS ARE AS GOOD AS OUR BOWLERS. SO NOW IS THE TIME TO REALLY TRYNA THINK ABOUT THE TROPHY. WE SEE OTHER TEAMS DEGRADING AS THE TOURNAMENT IS EXACERBATING BUT OUR BLOKES ARE TOTALLY IN CONTROL OF THEIR GAME AND WHICH IS A VERY GOOD SIGN FOR ANY TEAM. I HOPE NEPAL WILL BRING THE TROPHY BACK HOME AND CONCENTRATE ON DIV 4 MATCH IN ITALY. COMMON GUYS……………HATS OF TO YA’LL….
Congrats to nepal and kudos to both the openers.
Thankx kushal, for being so supportive to our motherland Nepal..
Well done guys, particularly Mahesh and Anil. Now, it’s Afghan’s turn to get crushed……….All the best
we want this kind of performance against AFGHANISTAN in SEMI……do not think about anything…don’t take any pressure in your mind just keep focus….don’t loose your patient….play natural game…don’t think about loosing..just think about winning…..keep motivating each other….just take it easy…..do not think about past failure….past is past…..think about today and create history…….we all fan are with you paras and ur troop;;;;keep going…don’t look back…..come home with trophy…u really deserve..just play ur natural game….
well done:go ahead nepal
m happy that roy came ro effect
Afganistan is doing well. Everyone knows it. One reason behind this is that they are getting full support from pakistan cricket. They have frequent chances to paly with high ranked pakistani players. But India being sooooooo close to Nepal and being a cricketing giant donot give any support to us. For this our politicians should be serious and should talk them for the development of nepalese cricket. Otherwise there are other chances also. We should talk with either Pakistan or with Bangladesh for support. Call them to send their A teams to us or send our team to play there.
What a slap to the CRITICS……………
Good Job Nepal……………………..
U do deserve to be in DIVISION IV…………..
Congratulations……………………….
why binod is not playing ujjawal ji?
He is dropped out of the playing XI for Amrit Bhattarai. As far as I know, he is not injured or unable to play.
@ Hemant….The reason why we are not getting the exposure is not because the indians are not supporting us…its simply because our very own CAN members are sitting out there playing politics….Just to give you a very good example of what happened during icc div 5 qualifiers..Sharad Vesawkar was removed from the team because he was considered out of form and unfit for the tournament…(He went on to score a century in the same tournament) In fact the truth is ..he is one of the few players in the team who voices his opinion on what CAN has really done for its players…Because he voices his opinion…he is disliked and so are hundreds of other very talented players…!! They are simply kicked out because they express their dissatisfaction over a very corrupt system!!! Millions of rupees come to CAN officails for the sake of development of cricket in Nepal…Wonder where the development is….Nowhere…!!! Step outside Kathmandu Valley and you will see that nothing has been done to improve the facilities. The national team doesn’t even get compensation on a monthly basis for their extraordinary contributions every year. Its the players mere talent and passion that has brought us so much success in the recent tournaments. Not the CAN..!!! It is so sad to see players beg for help from the Prime Minister…shame on our CAN officials…!! If you guyz have any dignity, do something for the players. Until CAN members start thinking about the players and not themselves….there will never be enough resources for the players…Talent alone can only get us so far….!!!
FYI..I feel like Binod Das is the new victim of the current CAN politics..!!! But i know with his talent…he will back as the no 1 baller for Nepal…
Yes u are right brow. Binod has been served the team for years and CAN shud not behave unjustice with him. We all want to contribute for team as much as we can but the reliable management must be set up.
you are really really true…I really support your view….this is true…..These f**ng CAN canno’t do anything…they eat my Sh*t …..
