Nepal entered the semifinals of the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 as Oman’s beating of Kuwait ended the hosts’ chances at Unity, Kuwait.
Nepal has three wins with a game in hands against Kuwait on April 6, who has won only one. Oman and Hong Kong, with two wins each, are playing on same day to determine another team to qualify from the group.
This is third consecutive time that Nepal has qualified to semifinals of the Asia’s biggest event for non-Test playing nations. Nepal missed out semifinals in 2004 while it reached the final in 2002.
Nepal’s three wins came against defending champions Hong Kong (by 118 runs), Oman (by six wickets) and Singapore (by seven wickets).
Singapore lost all four matches and is relegated to ACC Trophy Challenge.
From Group B, Afghanistan and UAE are atop the table with two wins each but Malaysia, who had a game against UAE, could turn tables for one of them on net run rate with a thumping win.
GYANENDRA MALLA TO JOIN
Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla will join the team on Monday as he was granted visa by Kuwait after rejecting it twice.
“We talked with the Asian Cricket Council and the hosts and they assured us that he could play the rest of the matches,” said Tarak Mani Dixit, the secretary of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
Naresh Budhair had flown to Kuwait to replace Gyanendra but will not play.

Best of Luck Guys…
Wave the double triangle flag one more time and come home with a big trophy…
My opinion is, by far Nepal has been the best performer among the 8 teams.. Just check the victory margin 118 runs, 6 and 7 wickets … these are big big wins… Need to be consistent with bat and ball ..
Please do not get over exited and over confident and we People at Nepal are waiting for the trophy…
Once again best of Luck..
Why is Binod Das not in the team?
afganistan is the big threat for nepal. so try not be be mentally weak and this is the best team of nepal so far with great captain: nepal should eye asai cup in which various international domestic team could hire nepalese players.
players like Anil mandal, G. malla, Paras Khadka should be given oppertunity in nepal so that they dont have to flew abroad.
Having entered into semi-finals with romping victories and one more game to go in its league phase, Nepal cricket aficionados could not have hoped for better than this. Now, it is just the matter of playing in the continued fashion and be focused to achieve the mission. With the arrival of Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla back into the team after his visa-fiasco, it will certainly boost up the team’s spirit and add extra dimension to the batting line-up. Though there are talks that Afghanistan may pose a great threat to Nepal, I reckon it is not the case. Yes, Afghans are good, but they are not invincible. They are also mortals and could be vanquished provided our boys play in the similar vein and do not get distracted from their objectives.Currently, both the batting and bowling departments are working in unison and it has be maintained as such. So boys, you are capable of to accomplish the mission….
Now regarding Gyanendra Malla’s visa-fiasco, I presume it is really frustrating that it happens at the eleventh hour. Visas getting rejected for minor matters are simply ridiculous. Everything should have been prepared in advance to avert such unnecessary hassles. I hope in future, the concerned officials will be better equipped to deal such unsavoury episodes.
Well done,
another boost for the nepali team as vice captain joins them up.
Good luck.
Hey Khushal,
I am appalled by your support for the Nepali Team…Thank You for that!!! I must say, both Nepal and Afghanistan are doing really well in the recent tournaments. I would personally like to Congratulate you for the success you guys have had in such a brief period of time. Its quite fascinating. I am very excited for Afghanistan, as the country itself is coming out of a big mess. Afghans are doing what they want to do and Afghanistinis playing Cricket is just a small example of what democracy can bring to a country. Once again, cheers to your success…..!!
On the other hand Afghan is most likely going to face Nepal in the semis…!! It should be a great match…and the best team that day will win…We have been beaten by Afghanistan in the past and the scores have been pretty competitive…!!! This time confidence is on our (Nepali) side…but i believe Afghan’s will give their best shot..!! As a true patriot..i believe that Nepal will pull it off this time!!! Good luck to you Khusal!!
Jai Nepal!!!
