Nepal survived a spirited Malaysian run-chase to set a date with Afghanistan for the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 title with an eight-run victory at Hubara, Kuwait.
Nepal displayed some good batting performance to scored 271/6 in 50 overs. Malaysia reached within a touching distance of it, before falling out on 263 in 49.4 overs.
Suresh Navaratnam scored a century leading the run-chase but that was only enough to earn him man of the match award. The end-result meant the brilliant performance of the 1998 finalist came to an end.
Malaysia suffered an early blow losing opener Damith Warusavithana on the first ball of the innings and then Ahman Faiz the next over to Paras Khadka.
From 1/2, captain Suhan Kumar took the charge. He added 44 with veteran Rakesh Madhavan (7) and 82 with Navaratnam to repair the damage.
Both Madhavan and Kumar fell to off-spinner Sanjam Regmi, albeit in long distance. Kumar got 70 off 89 deliveries with six fours.
Shakti Gauchan and Rahuk BK took a wicket each as Malaysia went down to 127/3 to 146/6 and Nepal sensing the victory.
But Navaratnam and lower order had other thoughts. Hassan Ghulam got 19 off just 16 balls with two sixes before Basant Regmi undid him.
Wicket-keeper Shafiq Sharif was more aggressive hitting out 31 off 18 balls with five fours and his partnership with Navaratnam yielding 82 runs in no time.
Navaratnam played a few shots himself to reach the century but he was out a little earlier. Paras took his wicket when he was at 115 off 103 balls. He hit six four and three sixes in his praiseworthy knock.
In last over, Malaysia needed 14 for victory. Two runs later, Sharif was run out and Basant grabbed the last wicket to end the things in Nepal’s favor.
Earlier, Malaysia invited Nepal to bat first on the flat wickets. Anil Mandal (4) went early but Mahesh Chhetri and Shakti Gauchan partnered 87 runs for second wicket to build a foundation for big score.
Chhetri was out on 43 off 86 balls while Shakti completed his fourth half-century for the national team before S Yusof got rid of him. Shakti made 52 off 57 balls with four boundaries.
Captain Paras has been out-of-form in the event and that continued as he could only add couple of runs as Nepal went down to 120/4 from 98/1.
Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla and Sharad Vesawkar then did the wonders. While Gyanendra played a role of quiet partner, Sharad played with dominance and skills of a perfect batsman.
Sharad reached his half-century with a boundary while Gyanendra missed the landmark by a run after he was bowled by Navaratnam on 49 off 61 balls.
Sharad deserved a century but was three-runs short unbeaten when the match ended. Sharad’s 97 not out was made in 66 balls with 10 fours and a six. Dipendra Chaudhary contributed 14 runs.
This is the second instance Nepal has reached the final of the ACC Trophy. In 2002, it reached the final defeating Malaysia in the semifinal by 25 runs but lost to UAE in the title clash.

wow lovely news the only Nepali cricket gives them time to time celebrate occasion na????
today match was so interesting Malaysia was fight back so lovely but at last they did loose wicket and it was turning point for match
lau balla balla jhundiyera bhaye pani jitiyo…Just to prove the whole world that we have grown as a cricketing nation..the “choker” tag should no longer be with us.
It is very rare that we get to say that our batsman have won us a match, but surely this tournament till this date has been much more about our batsmen than the bowlers. Bowlers have done their job, have been steady but our batsman have just found this mantra of getting runs and that too in crucial matches and crunch situations.
I was a bit worried with all those comprehensive win for us and now we get this hard fought one and that augurs well for the final. We cannot get complacent and we have to be at our toes to win the match against the Afganistani.
Afganistan have used all their luck against their match against Malaysia, so if we bat well like we have done this series and bowl to our potential, there will be history in the making cum 9th of April.
Best of luck boys and hope they make our nation proud
Boys done well at very last moment. Till last we (Nepali) were very worried about the result, but thanks to god that we can get a good result one again. Boys now you have to plan well in bowling strategy. You have done well with bat but try to grasp our old phenomenon of sharp bowling against rivals.
Get cool today, plan better next day and come with new motive in yourself. Now you must defeat Afganistan. Boys all Nepalese and their pray is wid u…………….Come on Nepal bring the winner trophy to home.
Get going guyz wat about asia cup dis tym?
What an achievement for Nepali Cricketers. This team reminds me of U-19 Nepali squad in year 2002. Sharad and i used to go watch the boys play for our country. Now he is the one who drives our team. Can’t be happy enough for him!!! I am so glad that our batting has finally prospered. Haven’t seen such a balanced team ever!!! We have always been an outstanding bowling and fielding team….but this batting team just looks invincible!!! We have reached the final unbeaten….and now we play the same Afghani team that will be playing against India in the T20 worldcup…It will be a great achievement for our boys to win the ACC trophy and proove our dominance in the Asian level!!! We definitely needed some success in the international level to revive the craze of Cricket in Nepal and our boys are doing just that! After a recent success in ICC World Cup qualifier we have shown that we can be a great Cricketing Nation. ACC trophy will certainly secure our position as a true leader among all the non-test playing Asian nations. CAN just needs to realize that our boys can get to the 2015 world cup if they play such tournaments consistently!!! We have series of tournaments coming but our success lies in playing more matches in domestic level. We have to make sure that our boys get every opportunity to play at the international level without any breaks.
India is a huge Cricketing nation and we can definitely utilize our neighbours by playing matches against their top level teams. I would like to suggest CAN to talk to BCCI and arrange something where our boys can go to India and play against their first class cricketers. That will be a huge confidence boost for our players. Afghans are utilizing Pakistani Cricket League, we should utilize Indians!!! The developemnt of Cricket in Nepal lies in the hands of the players, if they can develop and advance their game by playing against the Indian Cricketers then CAN should provide them with every necessary resources!!! That is where the success lies.
At the mean time let’s just hope that our Boys overcome this final hurdle. They are definitely going against one of the best teams in the tournament but i believe our boys are more confident and more passionate to win this tournament then the Afghan’s. Let’s pray for our boys and the team!!!
Jai Nepal!!

SOLUTE YOU RAKESH…………….WHAT AN ANALYSIS!!!!!!!!
????????? ?? ?????????? ?????? ????? ????? ????? ????? ??????? ??????? ?????? ???? ??? ???? ?? ?????? ????????? ??? ??????? ??? ???? !!
Rakesh Kram, great analysis. Loved your write up.
Fantastic job boys. But to speak the fact we really missed binod’s expertise. To beat an afghans we need a very balanced team. Batting is superb through this tournie.Bowlings been alrite.I really want our team keep on scoring at the rate of 5.5 or even 6 almost all the time. Afghans are strong if they bat first they will put up a big score and if they chase they are mentally so strong that they can chase any target.Their bowling is as fine as ours but i doubt they are bit weaker in fielding than us.Whatever it is, coach and and captain really need to plan how to play with them.We have to have perfect strategy to play with them in fact we need to outperform them in every department and we cant afford to make any mistakes.I know our guys are very confident this time around but unless we win it we are not champion.Ok lets sum it up, in my view we need at least one change in the squad. We definitely need Binod Das.Paras is a good bowler but i doubt he doesnt have that quality as Binos has to open it.However my playing 11 for the final would be,
1)Anil Gurung
2)Mahesh Chettri
3)Shakti Gauchan (needs to play like today)
4)Sharad veswakar
5)Paras Khadka
6)Gyanendra Malla
7)Dipendra Chaudhary
8)Mehboob Alam
9)Basanta Regmi
10)Binod Das
11)Sanjam Regmi
This squad can win the Final .Even our no 10 can bat so there is depth in the batting and most important thing is most of them are in form.We have three pacers, three full time spinners and if the team wants Gyanendra can bowl.Anyway thats my view and all the best to our team.So far you have done all of us very proud. Keep playing and keep winning and bring the trophy home.
Jai Naya Nepal
fully agree with your playing 11 man! Rahul is not doing much so far… and Binod is the giant, the most successful bowlers Nepal have ever produced!
but the batting (middle) order should be as follows:
…
4. S. Vesawkar
5. G. Malla
6. P. Khadka
….
rest is OK!
