Shakti Gauchan, 26, became the first Nepali cricketer to complete 1,000 runs in international one-dayers during his half-century against Malaysia in the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 semifinal match at the Hubara, Kuwait.
He now has 1,034 runs from 44 innings of 52 matches at an average of 27.95. His half-century on Wednesday was his fourth while he has also scored 106 not out against Italy.
For a cricketer, who had not remained in the limelight, the achievement speaks more about his dedication and commitment to cricket.
On his debut in the national team in 2002, he won the man-of the-match award against Oman for scoring 37 runs and taking three wickets. The ACC Trophy turned out to be his dream debut as he went on to score 248 runs and took seven wickets in six matches helping Nepal reach the final.

At nearly six foot, the cricketer from Bhairahawa, Shakti is an efficient cricketer, most of the times remaining in the shadows. In such a shadow that despite being the vice-captain of the national team with a history of leading Nepal in the U-19 World Cup, he was never considered a potential captain.
He played 26 matches for the U-19 team scoring 600 runs, with a century and four half-centuries, and taking 24 wickets. His most memorable performance was against South Africa when he scored 51 not out and took two wickets for a sensational victory in the 2006 Youth World Cup – a captain´s knock.
For Shakti, who married his sweetheart Kavita and has a sweet little daughter, cricket is life. He continues contributing on the field and also off the field. He has set up a cricket training center in his hometown, something he is really proud of.
Shakti also bowls left-arm leg-breaks and has taken 62 wickets. One of his teammates long ago joked on him: ´put a coin on the pitch and Shakti will hit it four times in an over´. Probably true with him as he is known to be mean while bowling with his economy rate only being 2.34 runs per over.
His success should be attributed to, as his former captain Binod Das said, his capacity to play within his limitations.

Congratulation.. dear shakti for becoming 1st person who made 1000 runs in international cricket……. wish your consisting performance and salute to your dedication in cricket…. Grand Salute from Bhairahawa
Among many all rounders in the team Shakti is the most consistent performer both with bat and ball and his fielding is also good.He is a genuine all rounder . Mehaboob also makes in the list with good performances.. paras can improve more as he is still very young… Binod should perform with bat too..
All the best to Heros of Nepal..And all the best for your future… We need Shakti for some 5 more years ..
But it is hard to accept he is just 26 like most cricketer of Asia.
Congrats bro……….
keep up the good work…………………….
Best Wishes………………….
Nepal must come with 3 pace bowlers (amrit, binod and mehboob) to win the final match. if we rely on our spinner only its not good for nepal…i think 2 fulltime spinner will be enough (sanjam and basanta)….malaysia couldnot have brought match so close if there were enough pace bowler in nepali team…so i would like to request our team manager and captain to inlcude amrit binod and mehboob in final match…if we had done this in semifinal we would have won the match by more than hundred runs difference…..
i don’t understand kuwait climate and what react of cricket ground because it depend on cricket pitch if there spinner able we can change like that and most important think who players is making these days good form .
Raj,You are wrong,Malaysia and Afghanistan is so diffrennt team.Malaysia are easily play aganist spinner because most Srilankan players are in Malaysia team.Afghanistanis are well play for pace bowler because their have so fast bowler in the team therefore easily play with pace bowler. The management wouldn’t in the final in the more number pace bowler.
Congrats
keep up the good work…………………….
Best Wishes………………….
Congrats Shakti hope your all round performance will help nepal win the finals. Including 3 pacers amrit, binod and mehabob for the finals is completely illogical. Mehaboob will be included for sure and i don’t see any possibility of amrit’s inclusion. The main question is whether binod can make into playing 11 or not? One of these four- binod, deependra, basanta and rahul have to be excluded for the finals. Having experienced deependra in late middle order have always boosted the confidence of our top and middle batting order to play more aggressive shots. On the other hand, basanta is one of the best all-rounders in the team. He is perhaps most reliable bowler for the captain which we saw yesterday as paras handed the ball for the crucial last over into basanta’s hand. Another spinner Rahul is below par throughout this tournament but when he performs, he is a definite match winner. How can one forget his 7 wickets haul against USA in div 5 finals? Next is our former captain Binod whose is probably the best pace bowler of Nepal. It’ll be interesting to see who will not be in playing 11. Since paras is also capable of bowling fast, probability of binod’s exclusion is higher. What do you think guys?
truly pointed but there is no use of 4 spinners in the 11. Binod should be included for rahul or sanjam.
But it seems, Paras has no faith in pace bowling, so our pacemen could not get full quota of overs to bowl, even yesterday, our spinners were hammared but still he did not turn to his best bowler of the match, Mahboob Alam who bowled only 5 beautiful overs and Paras, being himself a pacebowler but he prefer to bowl his off spin rather than pace at the last few overs.
Congrats to him…
he is our genuine allrounder with consistant performance with bat and bowl.
but still more to go… he have to cross more bars in coming days where u will be required… keep doing and make us proud..
thank you guys for your advice and knowing that who team is more better and who play against spinner and who team play against fast bowler my thinking is little different because spinners specialist and 3 fast bowler in the balance but if pitch is supportabe for spinners we must keep 3 spinners because cricket is gentele game. and for keeping team management they can change also some plan i have already told about the match plan if you look austrialia, shrilanka, they have already planed who to play for spinners how to play for fast bolwers and how keep them pressure so important think keep plan .
good job POWER….hope u will do nice ans nepal wins in final….. [deleted for use of abusive words]

Mahesh Silwal,
Please don’t use words that make others appalled and sad but instead use words to make others happy. As we all love cricket and we are fans of cricket so it doesn’t make matter whether your or mine team wins or loses.
Respect to be respected my dear!
ya of course we are cricket fans there is no necessary to use that type of words which makes other fan hearts infect kantipur online is very famous all over the world for oneline nepali news .
We apologize for the words he used Khushal, you are close online mate of us and our nations are neighbours too, dont be sad.
I totally agree with you as there is no need to use abusive words that will hurt the fans from the opponent teams. Let the teams do the damage plan on the field hehe!!! As a Nepali, I’m expecting Nepal to win the Finals and break the long awaited Silverware
Best of luck to both the teams!!! peace
Congratulations for this milestone and truly deserves kudos for your untiring services to Nepali cricket. Now, Nepal having reached the grand finale of ACC Elite Cup 2010, your finishing touch performance against Afghanistan would be icing on the cake of your tremendous career. The other team members should also draw inspiration from you and as a fitting tribute Nepal should win the cup and make this tournament a double memorable one.
For the final game against Afghanistan, the boys should believe in themselves and play with full heart. The inspirational captain Paras Khadka, who seems to have been blessed with the Midas touch, has shown you the path – how to hold on the nerves under pressure situation and be specific on your target. So, enjoy the game and play with enthusiasm, the world is your oyster, my friends…….
Hey congrats SHAKTI, as we knw tha u r da most cosistant nd valuable alrounder of our team and u proved it. U r in tremendous form now a days and hop u will further show in the final for tht wish u all the best…show ur talent in the ground against well off afghan.
Its really good to see over all batting improvement in the team batsmen. But im quite disappointed with the selectors and captain tht why did thy keep 4 spinnes jst by removing alrounder Bnod Das? We won malysia only bcoz of good batting performance. If we had jst one more pacer either BINOD or AMRIT it would create extra presure to the opponents so tht we might hav bundled them very early in yesterday’s match. we had got success by the pacers/openers, but another one pacer lack to support them. In spite of good bowling performance by AALAM, he didnt got the chance to complete his full bowling spell yesterday, why??? I really thank to the batsmen who played well and made victory against malysia. Thts a batting pitch and we see evry spinners economy is not good except Shakti. Such type of strategy is not going to help evry time thts why plan and prepare properly before the match starts. And we knw vry well that the final match is in same ground where we played semi-final, and we are already experienced tht spinners couldnt get success. Hope we will see some change in the final, i think somthing must change in our team to win the final against Afghanistan and im fully confident tht our team can beat afghan.
Good luck. go nepal go and bring the trophy home, all fans are waiting for you. Wish u all the best against AFGHAN.
A real nepali
I salute the dedication of Sakti towards Nepali Cricket. He will be remain forever in the history of Nepali Cricket. I think, Raju Basnet and you deserve for more respect and hope other players follow your way.
Congrats Shakti for the accomplishment. Having seen the Kuwati pitches and the one where the final is slated, I must say it would be another high scoring game. For the first time ever I feel that Nepal’s batting lineup is stronger. They have been consistently scoring above 250 ( Given that the rate in which the are batting). Nepal should have scored 30 more runs in the semifinal against Malaysia becuase Hubara is a 300 plus pitch. The number of balls faced by Mahesh is much higher than his runs and it did not look like he is the one who has scored two 50s in the tournament. However, the opening stand Anil and Mahesh are providing is the base for Nepal’s scoreline.
Batting order would be cruicial for Nepal in the final. For me Paras who is due must come in at one followed by Gyanendra, Sharad and the rest. There is noting to lose for Nepal in the final now as Afghanistan is under pressure as it needs to prove its one day status. Equally important are bowling changes which Paras is pretty quick in rotating to containing long-handle-using Afghan batsmen, Nabi is the key man and frustrating them with cramping them for runs is the key to get wickets for Nepali bowlers. Anyway, deservingly the best two teams, third being Malaysia, have made it to the last two. It would be hell of a final.
Nothing to lose guys !! Clear the last hurdle.
Congratulations Dai on achieving this feat..!!! You are definitely top of the crop!!!
Congrats shakti to achieve 1000 run that u r 1 st cricketer in Nepal. Shakti is power of Nepali team & we say shakti is the wall( rahul dravid of Nepal). keep it up
Congratulations Shatki for your milestone and good wishes as more is left yet to be achieved. You have contributed a lot to Nepali Cricket and this contribution will be towards all Nepali Sports as well. Anyways, Best of Luck for today’s Final
