Cricketers withdrew their boycott after talks with Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) as both parties agree to form a seven-member committee to strengthen relations between them.
The players will now compete in the Pepsi Twenty20 National League, beginning on May 30 – a day late than scheduled. “CAN expressed commitments towards our demands,” captain Paras Khadka told Cricket Nepal. “We will play in the national leagues.”
On May 28, the players in the closed-camp training for the World Cricket League Division IV suddenly announced that they were boycotting the national leagues protesting the CAN management.
An emergency meeting of CAN on May 28 evening decided to postpone the T20 league by a day to give teams time to get the alternative players and authorized CAN member Thakur Pratap Thapa – also the manager of the current team – to talk to players.
Thapa and players held talks on May 29 morning where both parties agreed that there had been mistakes from both sides. Khadka later talked to CAN president Binay Raj Pandey over phone where Pandey asked players to play the national leagues and promised to ‘take the demands seriously.’
“We agreed to form a seven-member committee including three players, three CAN officials and a coach which will bridge the gap between board and players,” Khadka said.
According to Khadka, the committee will be a platform for players and coaches to raise their concerns and also advise board on various development issues including facilities to players and sponsorship.
Pandey also promised to see into the daily allowances of players for the national leagues – which according to Khadka is not enough for players from outside Kathmandu.
The Pepsi Men’s T20 National League Cricket Tournament begins on May 30 with Region No 1 Biratnagar plays Region No 5 Nepalgunj in the inaugural match while Region No 2 Birgunj takes on Region No 3 Kathmandu in the day’s second match at IOE Ground, Pulchowk.
CAN president Pandey will inaugurate the event.

Congrats to all of u guys, u won the plot. Hope it’ll further help to develop nepali cricket, to raise nepalese players’ status and even to teach a fantastic lession to the CAN staffes. Its really good that the problem solved very quickly as we many of us didn’t expected. I am extremly optimistic for the bright future of nepalese cricket with this step in the future if all sectors be and keep awaring.
Wish u all the best to all playes for the league mtch. Play, show ur talent and enhance your skills as well.
CHEERS!!!
Good to see a quick abatement in the problem. But if CAN has done this only for the sake of formality to throw dust in the eyes of ACC and ICC then the problem will be distructive for them in the future. I believe in one principle, the only way to tackle with the revolt is to not let it be. I am not an insider of CAN but only a die hard fan of nepali cricket so i don’t have much information about how much money CAN gets from ACC, ICC or sponsors and for what purpose they make the expenditure but one thing is clear for certain, from the step of the players is that CAN members use the cricket development fund for their own development. The gravity of the problem lies in the fact that most of the present members are in CAN for a very long time and it is a serious matter of shame that they are getting benefits at the expense of the players. If the present members cannot provide enough salary and allowance to the players and have no vision for the development of cricket then the only solution for u guys is to resign and leave the post to others who can do so.
i dont know wat CAn commited for players.
but its truth that CAN is now gang of businssman n political followers! 1 day before CAN secretary TANKA Paneru say it was indiscipline from players but let us see the highlights of Tanka Paneru:
~ He is Charter accountatn by proffesssion n he was former president of Chartered Accountany assosciatiom. politically he is active member of CPM UML, he is advisor of finance minister surendra pandey!
~ he got the pst of CAN secretary via jeevan shreastha, he is just cricket fan in Tv nothing more than that.
~ he also succede to become NEPSE Chairman by finance misister. how can aperson get 2 government pst? in NEPSE he is 2 corrupted, he deposited 28 crors of Rupees in his fren Bank in nominal interst by which he got more than 1 crore commision( news source: Jaanaastha weekly)
~ not only that he is the person who is lobbying for UNITY Group wid finance minister saying that unity is doing good!!
binay pandey is businesssman than president of CAN. he is alone he doesnt know anything inside cricket. he s running in Jay kumar nath sah path just holding 4 match natioal league!! previous CAn was also not good since there was tussle between him n cricket virus T.B Sah. only upendra bhattarai is ok.
Bivek is right about Paneru.
How can Paneru do good for cricket if he has no knowledge about it.
The whole market knows that the man behind Unity is Chartered Accountant Tanka Paneru. Tanku is hidden becoz. he is of Amaley and has good relation with the Finance Minister. Last year a newspaper said that he is in audit committee in Amaley. Because of this strong political relation, he become secretary of Cricket Association, he is now chairman of Stock Exchange.
The rumour is that all works of Unity Life was done in office of Tanka Paneru. He choosed the recent auditor and in past year he himself was auditor. Tanku used to drive a motorbike five years back, now he has vehicle worth 70-80 lakhs. What is his source? Has he paid tax to government?
Everybody know these auditors and CA Institute members have code of ethics. Tanku was master mind behind Unity that has cheated lakhs of Nepali, made mockery of all laws. Where is ethics?
Where is the CA institute? This is a huge question. Ethics is only for small registered auditors who have no voice in that institute. He is past president means he can do anything and drive through the streets as if he did nothing.
Everybody know the Government has no meaning. But they are hiding this culprit. Tyo finance minister ko pani niyat thick chaina jsto cha. Kina sabthok lukaucha?
Where is Rastra Bank? Where is tax office? Where is Akhtiyar? Where is Finance Mantralaya? Thula manche lai chai kehi karwahi nagarne?
Why don’t media investigate about Tanku? There are so many newspaper. Where are they?
Tanku’s master mind has looted many people like me. So, take action against him immediately, make him public.
