Defending champions Region No 3 Kathmandu kept up the hope of qualifying to the final of the Pepsi Men’s Twenty20 National League defeating Region No 5 Nepalgunj by 7 wickets at the IOE Ground.
Gyanendra Malla scored unbeaten 65 as Kathmandu chased Nepalgunj’s 103/7 with 19 balls remaining losing only three wickets.
With the win, Kathmandu now has two wins from four matches behind Region No 3 Bhairahawa (3 wins from 3 matches), Region No 2 Birgunj (3 wins from 4 matches) and Region No 4 Bhairahawa (2 wins from 3 matches).
On June 5, Bhairahawa plays Birgunj and winner will be ensured a position in the final. Kathmandu has to hope that Bhairahawa wins both remaining matches, the other being against Biratnagar on June 6, and they defeat Baitadi on Sunday with a good net run-rate.
At IOE, Gyanendra played a memorable innings scoring 65 off just 52 balls. His knock included five fours and three sixes. He partnered Subash Khakurel (21 off 38) for 90-run third wicket partnership after Kathmandu lost openers early to go down 7/2.
Sandeep Shrestha took 2/14 while Navin Shahi took a wicket.
Earlier, Subendu Pandey (36 off 30) and Mahesh Chhetri (31 off 54) took Nepalgunj to a fighting total. Other two-digit contributions came from Sitanshu Pandey (12) and Sandeep (10).
Rikesh Lama was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/13.

@KUMAR RHRESTHA:
Dear brother,
idea is not bad thats fantastic and m 100 percent agree with ur idea.
But problem is that HOW? Could u plz explain? I think its impossible to boycott those people in our country coz they are in mejority if u count. Thy hav a very special authority n power to do anything just like a licence. If u or som1 catch their action then thy easily show their licence n thy got rewarded by our gov. as a prestigious person with a medal in spite of punishing them. So wht do u think bro?
Had Kathmandu’s batters batted in the same vein in the earlier games as well (Except in the opening game), the team would not have to be in such a fix situation. Although the team has kept its hope of making into the finals, its chances will depend upon other teams’ statistical factors, to say the least. Now, in the end, if the team finds itself out of the finals, it will be due to its own doings and nobody is to be blamed for it. As I said a little bit of complacency and a tinge of slackness in players’ performances have proved its undoing. Any way, since the team has won this game and its supporters expect its team to replicate the winning performance against Baitadi in a smashing manner and hope other statistical factors also go in its favour…. So, whatever has had happened, it has happened, you cannot change it.
So, Dudes ! Just go and play with heart and soul and hope for the best. I reiterate, I had said earlier in this Twenty20 Cricket format, you never know what might happen. It is simply a mind boggling game and the fortunes fluctuate with every single game, provided a team balances its wins and losses……
