Nepal names WCL Div 4 squad
Manjit Shrestha has made a comeback in the final 14-member national squad announced for the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division-4 to be held in Italy.
All-rounder Shrestha has been included in the national squad for the first time since 2005. He had participated in the ACC Three-day League Cricket in Hong Kong in 2005. Despite being named in the ACC Trophy in Malaysia in 2006, he was ruled out from the tour owing to injuries in his finger.
Shrestha paved way for re-entry in the national team following his brilliant performance in the Pepsi National T20 and One-day national tournament held last month. To steer Biratnagar to T20 victory he claimed 11 wickets with an average of 12.82. In one dayer he struck 108 runs playing four matches with an average of 36 to guide the team to final.
All-rounder Pradip Aire of Baitadi has also been selected in the national team for the first time. Aire who hammered an impressive half century against Pakistan in the 11th South Asian Games in Bangladesh has proved himself as an emerging talent.
In the national T20, Aire has scored 102 runs with an average of 25.50 runs per match. In one-dayer he blasted 154 runs playing three matches with an averge of 77 to steer Baitadi to semifinals for the first time in senior cricket.
Remaining 12 players in the squad are captain Paras Khadka, vice captain Gyanendra Malla, Shakti Gauchan, Sarad Veshawakar, Mahesh Chhetri, Anil Mandal, Amrit Bhattarai, Basanta Regmi, Binod Das, Sanjam Regmi, Rahul Kumar BK and Mehboob Alam are the members of the Division-5 triumphant squad held in Kathmandu on February.
Dipendra Chaudhary and Binod Bhandari are the only excluded members of Divison-5 winning squad and the finalist of ACC Trophy held in Kuwait. Chaudhary was not called for final closed camp of 18 players but Bhandari along with Naresh Budhaaire, Bhuwan Karki and Pushpa Thapa have been named reserved players in Italy.
Nepal will play against America, Italy, Argentina, Cammie Island and Tanzania from August 14-21 at Italy. Top two teams will be selected for Division-3 to be held in China in January 2011.

Dipendra should have been there, there is always a place for an experienced hand.Btw what type of bowler is Manjit? I guess an off-spinner.
sorry reaz, manjit is pace bowler but i think it is better not to keep dependra chaudhary in team because he is not doing so well to be selected and we need to give some opportunity to new talented youngsters like aire who is in their best form…. as i know manjeet, he got surname of junior waqar younis from pakistani media, while he was playing u-19 world cup in pakistan and lost pakistan in their own field…..it is the best decision to call back such a genius player in team.i hope he will get to play all nepal’s match in italy and can show his talency.and all the best for all the guys, wish they can perform their best on italy and get the best result…..jay nepal..
NO Man manjit shrestha is the pure pace bowler with exiting batting ability so it is good decision to include him in national team who can help to mehabob alam in the fast bowling department. All the best guys !!!
Dipendra only performs in National level, at international level he fades up.. So it is better to replace him with new talent.. Aire is a very talented all round cricketor and he can fulfill his shoe.. I will be more than happy if Manjit’s father’s CAN link has nothing to do with his selection in the national team..
Pradip desrves it and he will blast in Dvision 4 but he should not be seated in pavilion, there is no meaning of him on team if he will not get chance to play so he should be carry on 11 with USA.
My playing eleven….
Anil Mandal, Mahesh Chhetri, Shakti Gauchan, Gyanendra Malla, Paras Khadka, Sharad Vesawkar, Pradeep Airee, Majeet Shrestha, Mehboob Alam, Basanta Regmi and Sanjam Regmi………………
@ram krishna…..it duzn’t seem that u hab very knowledge abt neplese cricket…be very clear no other player can replace binod das for next 5 yrs nd none of the neplese cricketer even can think a team without binod das…
manjeet shrestha is obviously a gud ckicketer…he can only be in playing eleven if only pitch is nt very friendly to spinners other wise he is best to b 12th man….
Pradeep Aire is an exciting inclusion. I m sure he’ll prove his worth in Italy. Manjeet can become a good 12th man. He may replace binod or alam when needed.
boys….
bardan chalise aayera “big talk” dina baki cha hai …harek post ma ushko big comment hune garcha….aja bholi dekheko chaina….where is he n wot he is doin except discouraging our player in the name of protest against CAN
hey guys nice to c u all in this site. I really enjoy reading your comments here. I think it doesn’t matter unless a player showes his talent in the specific tournament. looking the players’ talent and peformance we can not keep out of the field especially to Binod and Alam. We everyone know that they are not only bowlers but also a very good batsman as an allrounder. while talking about Manjeet and Airee; they are a very good youngester and we should give them at least a chance on the basis of other players’ peformance and form. One thing about Paresh Lohani, what about him and his peformance in the national league in both form……? m totally unknown about his status so plz guys could u tell me wht had happn to him b4 WCL div. V so tht he got out of team?
Who is the coach for Nepali team? Any idea guys??
Dont undestimate gr8 players like Binod..Plz dont make ur own 11 2 decrease da confidence in dem..Who ever play must play a role dey r 4….
Best of Luck for All……Manjit Bro is Back..hope he performs well…..
I lov cricket, especially nepali cricket as m a nepali boy.
Nepali team formation looks very promising as it has depth in both batting and bowling department. With the inclusion of Manjeet, Nepal becomes strong in both departments. Nepal pace department is led by Binod Das, Mehboob Alam, Paras Khadka, Amrit Bhattarai and Manjeet Shrestha. I reckon Pradeep is a medium pacer as well. It would be great help for Nepal team to play in Italy, where the pitch will definitely support the pace bowling. It’s amusing to see the depth of Nepalese batting as well, where likes of Basanta Regmi would probably bat at no. 10. I wish the Nepalese top orders collectively perform towards building up the inning, and not just by 1 or 2 batsmen.
We haven’t seen much of Argentina and Italy. They look great team as well. Italy and Argentina though performed poor in the European division and the American division respectively. Italy would probably have a home advantage, so Nepal should be psychologically fit and should treat each game as important as the final. I reckon we would qualify for the division 3.
Finally, 2 all- rounder manjit & pradeep airee is selected for div-4. i am happy that pradeep replaced dependra. i always say that pradeep must to selected on national team. Now, he deserve it. Pradeep need to prove that he have a good talent. Manjeet is come back after 5 yr. he is one of the key player on nation squad.
Among 14 player, there r 5 pace bowler. hope so cap. paras use 4 pace bowler in astro- turf pitch. Cap.paras should learn from his last mistake. i heard that astro- turf is good for pace bowler.
Pradeep Airee is a gr8 inclusion, but I personally would have loved to also see Subendu Pandey, he is the future of Nepalese cricket.
Further more, in terms playing 11, I do not care who is there as long as the team wins. We need our batsman to fire, rest should be ok !!1
Yeah, i appreciate u Binod Suvendu is a good handy batsman but dese players r more a like 2 play n hav done better in da past matches…..So, dey deserves da spot in playing 11..
Hope our team wins da division 4 so, we can c players like Suvendu, Pradeep, Manjeet gets chance 2 play in da 11 wid da increase in da no of tournments as per da wins…
All da best guys do perform well and show ur tallent….
As WCL 4 is going to be played in astro tuff so my playing 11 will be
mahesh chetri
anil mandal
shakti gauchan
gyandra malla
sharad vaswakar
paras khadkha
Mehaboob alam
binod das
pradid airee
basanta regmi
rahul viswakarma
i think above team is very much suitable beacause astro tuff does not help spinners.the above team has very much strong line up with 4 pace bowler and recornize batsman till 10 no .till no 10 all are recornize batsman.. Apart from pace bowler there are two main spinner bastanta and rahul. i think rahul is beter than sanjan never the less he is less experience than sanjam. He is in great form during national leauge too. sacti and sharad can alsa bowl some over if required, so in my opinion above team is very much suitable and i hope will be successful.
my dear brothers!!with no offense to anybody!!i think what matters above all is victory for nepal!!!n i request all of u, plz dnt think of any playing 11s’ at the moment coz we have to play on an astro…n if u rmbr, Nepalese players are really very familiar in these surfaces coz we got to practise in cemented nets an astro itself on T.U. ground…bt dnt forget one thing guys, that other players like americans n italians are also good in their pace attack…coz they r physically stronger than asians, i believe, every1 accepts this bitter fact…having said that, playing WCL -4 on winning succession is a better part for nepal..we’ve won WCL-5 that too against USA…which puts us on top!!!pradip is really gud, manjeet dai as we all noe, has proved himself whenever needed!!he was nt thrown out of the team because of his performance bt because of a finger injury!!!n those ppl who dnt noe abt him, i urge to them, better nt to gossip i u guys dnt noe!!!trust me guys 14 members r all suitable for playing 11..n now lets leavethe 11′s job to our great coach, the legendary player of srilanka mr. roy luke dias to select the best for NEPAl..n lets celebrate our success together…pashupati nath ki jai!!!!
