Nepal will participate in both, men and women, Twenty20 cricket event in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, the XVI Asiad, as the teams have been confirmed for the event.
There are ten countries participating in the men’s competition and eight in the women’s, according to Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
In men, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka will compete along with Nepal. The match-schedule has yet to be finalized though in the men’s event it is likely that Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be seeded and await to play the best of the other teams that come through the preliminary round.
In women, Nepal will participate alongside Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Pakistan, Singapore and Thailand
The Asiad in Guangzhou is the biggest Games so far, with 42 disciplines. The Games run from November 12 to 27 2010 and close to 8000 athletes and over 4500 officials will be taking part.
“This is cricket’s first entry into the Asian Games and it is a tremendous opportunity to bring cricket to a new audience and showcase it on a non-traditional platform where millions of new fans will be watching. Guangzhou has done marvelously in creating a state of the art facility for the cricket event and we hope that the countries taking part enjoy being part of an Asian sporting community in such a high-profile event. Winning a medal is something the players will all remember for a long time, the experience of taking part will also be cherished,” ACC quoted its Chief Executive Syed Ashraful Huq as saying.

Why India is not taking part in the Asian Games, Do they feel ashamed to play with minnows ?
Or they afraid from Afganistan and Nepal ? If they loose then they will feel really ashamed. So they dont take part ?
Guys Nepal le India lai harayako herne euta sapana thiyo pura nahune vayo, Look! Nepalese team, India ahele dekhi nai hami sanga darauna thalyo.
Now think that how strong r we? So play well and grab the trophy.
Afghanistan won the Intercontinental cup match from Scotland by 229 runs and are now table leaders by 77 points. This was their fifth first-class match, the first against Zimbabwe was drawn, but they have won 4 matches successively from Netherland, Ireland, Canada and Scotland. Hopefully they win their last match against Kenya and win the Tournament as well.
About yesterday’s match of Nepal, at first I was afraid due to the two early wickets but later skipper Paras and Mandal steadied the innings. But RAIN!
Have you guys ever seen any match in europe which is not intervened by RAIN?:)
GOOD LUCK for team NEPAL for the rest of the tournament.
afghanistan team is a joy to watch. a miraculous team with genuine pace bowlers. they have pace. i love it. hope it gets a permanent test and ODI status soon
Is it the senior teams that’ll participate? If it’s so, i can’t wait to watch the matches. Paras tossing in the middle with afridi…wow… anil mandal facing malinga’s opening over… I m really excited whatever the outcome is.
I think these countries will not send their first priority batsmen… But still that would be a great chance here for us…. And Nepal should win the league rounds to meet Pakistan, Bangladesh, SriLanka and Afghanistan… But that is quite easy.. I hope!!
Khushal bro, we want to see Afganistan winning the test playing nations in upcoming WORLD CUP.
Rail delays the start for Today’s match. Only uSa’s match is starting. But the good news is that the sky in not overcast and chances of rain are low. So we are likely to have a reduced game
@JHAPALI NEPALI:- India’s BCCI & IOC (Indian Olympic Committee) do not get along. Hence the reason India is not playing Asian Games. India is not ashamed of playing the “minnows” like Nepal or Afg. Like the case of too much politics in Nepali Cricket, BCCI has got even more coz lots of money involved. So BCCI is greatly guided by where the money is. And India I am sure is also not scared of loosing to Nep or Afg. It is all part of the game, and as a Indian fan I am sure they wont
@JHAPALI NEPALI:- Afg is not playing in this Cricket World Cup. They qualified for 20-20. They played in that. In the 2011 CWC the Non Test Playing sides are Ire, Neth, Can & Ken.
In 2015 I wish to have Afg & Nep playing the same
Inspection of ground delayed by half an hour. The Umpires will check the ground again at 11.00 Local time. Present time is 10.28 am
Sorry for 4th post in a row
Hello and welcome. It’s a sunny day here in Pianoro but the start will be delayed due to a few wet patches inside the 30-yard circle.
The umpires have decided that they will have an inspection at 11:00 local time and in the mean time the ground staff are busy doing their bit to get the surface water off the patches.
We have a decent crowd in already and that explains why the bar is open. >>>>”"Surprisingly there are a few Nepal flags waving as well and we have had quite a few mails in from Nepal fans wishing the team best of luck.”"<<<<
Will pass on the best wishes to the Nepal players when they pass by my tent next time
I am just joking Jashan Sir, but i really dont know that Afg is not playing this world cup, sorry for this.
11:34 – Another round of inspection over and the umpires have decided to come back and have a look at 12:00
They have also decided that lunch will be taken at 12:30, so that means we won’t start before 13:00…nothing to do but wait.
Just a note that the cut-off time for a 20-overs game is 16:15 local time.
It is good news that Cricket will feature in ASIAD GAMES for the first time. Now, Nepal can truly display its cricket-talent in this prestigious Asian event. In the men’s event, with the participation of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka, Nepal should easily make it to the next round and compete with seeded teams like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and then on with a little bit of luck and a desire to excel at the highest level; who knows Nepal can vanquish any of the juggernauts. Though Nepal is relatively newer to this 20Twenty Format, one may never say with the quickly fortunes changing format of this game. Besides, Given the current form of our players, I foresee every possibility of praiseworthy performance in this TWENTY20 FORMAT. However, prior to going to China for participation, our team should get adequate real match practices to be in tune for the prestigious tournament.
