Nepal registered a five-wicket victory over hosts Italy in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 4 cricket, but the win brought more concerns than celebrations.
After asking Italy to bat first, Nepal bowled it out for lowly 71 in 33.1 overs. Nepal’s chase was however not on the par with the bowling as it lost five wickets while reaching the target in 25 overs.
Mehboob Alam hit a six to end the match in Nepal’s favor. He was not out on 16 along with Sharad Vesawkar (10) while top-order failed to cope with the bouncing astro-turf.
In-form Anil Mandal and Gyanendra Malla were both out without scoring while Mahesh Chhetri (19), Shakti Gauchan (12) and Paras Khadka (9) were other batsmen out. H Jayasena took two wickets for Italy.
Earlier, in a rain-affected match which was reduced to 40-over-a-side, Nepal elected to field first and the bowlers claimed regular wickets to bowl out the hosts for a lowly total.
Amrit Bhattarai was the pick of Nepali bowlers taking 3 wickets for 8 runs in 6.1 overs while Paras Khadka, Shakti Gauchan and Basant Regmi each took two wickets. Binod Das took a wicket.
Only four Italian batsmen reached double digit, H Jayasena (16), P Petricola (15), H Patrizi (13) and A Northcote (10).
In the other match of the day, USA defeated Tanzania by 10 wickets completing a chase to 129 in 13th over.
Nepal scheduled match against USA on Monday will not be played for the playing conditions of the event states that all teams should play equal number of matches. On Sunday, the match between Argentina and Cayman Islands was abandoned and only that match will be replayed with all three matches of the first day going as the no result.

Oh! if that’s the case when will nepal take on USA? On thursday?, which is the only rest day left. And, what if another match of any team gets abandoned? That match will be played first and there’ll be no USA Nepal match. Is this the case? Or, the tournament will extend? Someone please explain.

Nepal’s victory over Italy was heart warming, no doubt, but the matter of fact is that we have to put in a much polished and convincing performance in the upcoming matches. As evidenced, our batsmen came very close to throwing away the match they should have won with relative ease. The bowlers performed exceedingly well to restrict the opposition to a paltry score but their brilliance almost went down the drain. Unless our batters come up with solid, consistent and intelligent performance it will not be easy.
GUYS ALL THE BEST FOR TODAY’S GAME……………………MAKE IT A HISTORICAL GAME ………………RUN BY A HUGE MARGIN………………WE NEED TO IMPROVE OUR RUNRATE TO BE SECURED……………………………….
BEST WISHES GUYS……………………….

I liked the abandoned NEP / USA match. Nepal was in upper hand 51 for 2. 200 and more run would have been very tough for USA to chase.
nepal are in the 3rd spot at the moment due to net run rate………………..so it is quite imp for nepal to improve their net run rate in this game…………otherwise its gonna b difficult for them…………..

It seems the rain factor really soaked too much of water and even though it was played on an astro-turf, the sticky and moisture laden pitch really proved batting a tough proposition for either team’s batsmen. Both the teams’ bowlers really wrought havoc, first by Nepalese bowlers; who really scythed through the Italian batting line up and restricted them to just 71 runs in 25 overs with nagging and incisive line and length speak of the domination of the Nepalese bowlers. But any ecstasy feeling of restricting the Italian side to mere 71 runs was short-lived as Nepalese batsmen too found themselves in a tight corner and the side faltered on it way chasing the target but thanks to Mahesh Chhetri, Shakti Gauchan, Sarad Vesawkar and Mehboob Alam displaying grit & determination on such a difficult pitch to bat on. I just wonder what might have been the situation if the Italian side had made something about 125 + score. In this encounter, Nepalese bowlers should be praised for their tremendous showing and ensuring victory for the team.
To sum it up, with this victory although Nepal has pocketed important points, the players should bear in mind in the next upcoming games, especially the batsmen will have to realise that every time the situation will not be such that the batting conditions would be conducive. The batting in this match was a volte face to what they had exhibited in earlier 2 practice matches. Truly speaking, Nepal should have won this game chasing easily without losing too many wickets. So, sooner they realise it the better. This is because chasing a target of mere 72 runs and losing 5 wickets cannot be taken in a satisfying manner. Besides, Nepal has generated tremendous expectations and elevated itself to a position where cricket aficionados back at home have reposed faith on our cricketers to realise the cherished dream of Nepal featuring in WORLD CUP…… Nepal should see how the UNCLE SAM chased down the target of Tanzania’s 129 in just 13.4 overs without losing a wicket. In competitive sports, it is very important for any team to immediately seek out its short-comings, rectify it and display better performance in next games.
We hope our boys will surely put up better batting performance in remaining games and play like a true champion……
