In a crucial match important for relegation, Nepal bowled out Cayman Islands for 69 in 39.5 overs — with left-arm spinner Basant Regmi taking four wickets. Nepal”s batting was not on par with bowling but the victory was completed in 17.2 overs at the loss of three wickets.
Mahesh Chhetri started aggressively but he edged to second slip trying to cut wide to M Bryan. He scored 19 off 22 balls. An over later, Anil Mandal (2) departed edging to rising delivery of C Wright.
At 27/2, Paras Khadka and Shakti Gauchan added 24 runs before the skipper was clean bowled trying to lift a shot. He made 13 off 20. Shakti (13 not out) and Gyanendra Malla (9 not out) then took Nepal home without further damage.
Earlier, Cayman Islands elected to bat first. They started slow but well adding 17 for opening stand. A clever work by Mahesh behind the wicket undid J Linton, who forgot to step back after leaving Amrit Bhattarai”s delivery to keeper.
Amrit then claimed R Sealy (11) who top-edged to Anil while trying to pull. Mehboob Alam, who bowled third for Manjeet Shrestha shared new ball with Amrit, claimed two quick wickets as Cayman went down to 25/5 in the 12th over.
R Bovell tried to held back the innings with fighting 31 not out but he ran out of partners as Basant came into action drying up runs and picking regular wickets. Rahul Biswokarma also claimed a wicket.
Man of the Match Basant Regmi commented, “I played my normal game today to claim my four wickets and it’s always nice to have your achievements recognised but ultimately I and the team are disappointed that we have not won promotion to Division 3.
“We still have the belief as a side that we could have been promoted but we just did not perform to the standard of cricket we know we are capable of playing. It’s now a case of returning to Nepal to look at what went wrong and to correct it for the future”.
On Saturday, Nepal plays Tanzania for third place. Tanzania defeated Nepal in the league match defending 117 that made it difficult for Nepal to reach the final and qualify for the Division 3.
Argentina and Cayman Islands will play the fifth-place playoff but both of them have been now been relegated to Division 5 while USA and Italy have been promoted to Division 3 and will compete for the title.
On Friday, Italy defeated Tanzania by 167 runs. They won all matches except the one against Nepal. USA beat Argentina by 196 runs.

kheladi lai khelna deu, timi bahira basera dherai nakhoka…timi nai sansar bata nikala holau..
I agree GAUCHAN did not score runs but think that if our batsmen would have stick on the crease like GAUCHAN we would have win game like TANZANIA easily. I think TURF is the culprit for NEPAL.
I think roy dais is fantastic coach when it comes to U-19 Level or U-17 level. Nepal need more proven coach like Dave Watmore who has worked wonders for smaller team. But is nepali government willing to invest on high profile proven coach?
At this position,if nepal win last match with tanjania nepal does not have the chance to go to final because of net run rate because USA and Italy has good run rate than nepal. now nepal is in 3rd position in WCL Div 4 right now.
@ night…… if nepal get Test Status, captain Gauchan, vice captain Veswakar and coach chai dias lai banaunu parchha. ani nepal le India sanga 1st ining ma 49 run and 2nd ining ma 41 run banauchha. ra india le yo test 1 ining and 200+ run le jitchha tio pani 1 day mai
Gauchan shud certainly be fired frm team.Wht the hell is he thinking at pitch.Playing hel lot of balls n scoring nthng..If only nepal wud hav scored those 9 runs agnst tanzania, nepal wud b in 2nd positi0n,coz nepal has better net runrate than italy…Nevermind, bholi 3rd place playoff jit6 nepal le.Best of luck
Fact iz fact npl has been settled in div 4. Roy dias iz no doubt a gud coach. Present status of nepalese crckt iz more bcoz of his n players hardwork. In d case of batting, i dnt know wats going on. If he cant do any better, new (high profile) coach has to b brought in!
Aba 2012 ko div 4 nepal le host garna CAN le pahal garnu par6…tesko lagi TU ground ma bar lagauna imp 6,natra div 5 ma jastai dhunga muda hun6…ani mulpani ko ground complete vaye ta tya nai garai hal6 ne…khai yeso garna sake ta kya maja hunthyo…feri ground mai gayera live herna hunthyo….CAN le pahal garla

hera nepal div 3 ma gako vae nex year hongkong ma hudo raicha daro support paune thio k garney sathi ho …..pidit banayo
Congratulations ITALY on moving to DIV 3. It is a biggest gift from NEPAL. Nepal has given you this opportunity by loosing miracle game with TANZANIA.
Aba div 4 nepal mai hun6 hola. Tanzania ma previous time bha thyo and it wasn’t much success bcoz of climate extremities and infrastructures. Teso bho bhane ta dhunga hanera bhaye pani jitaunu par6 div 4 ma. baru div 3 po kaha hun6 ? Tyaha samma hamro dhunga ko pahuch pugla napugla?
Three culprit for NEPAL:
1. TURF PITCH : We would have done much better on regular pitch. Especially batting and spin bowling.
2. USA : Damn USA beat NEPAL and Lost to ITALY.
3. Weather :Nepal / USA Abandoned match Nepal would have win. They were batting above 4.0 RR.
Asti Tanzania lai muskil le jiteko bhaye pani nepal out hune rahi6, italy’s NRR is better than nepal’s…..thikai bhaye6 asti harera.
Oh ho ra ? good catch Arun.
Aba mahesh ko satta subash khakurel should be brought in. Mandal may open with him. Shakti lai no. 9 ma batting garna launu parcha. Binod das bhanda amrit nai effective 6. Alam should always be there but must bat at no. 7 after paras, gynendra, veshwakar and airee. Veshwakar if continues to be out of form should be replaced by naresh budhayar or binod bhandari. Basanta regmi will be at no. 8 followed by shakti at 9. I think sanjam would be better option to go for who will bat at no.10 but rahul may be considered for some matches depending upon opponents. Amrit will be the last man in for Nepal. So, my squad would be:
1. Khakurel
2. Mandal
3. Veshwakar
4. Paras
5. Gynendra
6. Airee
7. Alam
8. Basanta
9. Shakti
10. Sanjam
11. Amrit
12. Rahul BK
13. Binod Das
14. Naresh Bhudhayar or Binod Bhandari.
I think we could have gone thru if we had won against Tanz…guys remember..if a team is all out, the overs used to calculate run rate wont be the actual played…but the full 50 overs. So if we had won over Tanz..our net run rate would have been slightly better.
Although I cant imagine we still lost that game!!! If only there were 2-3 fewer ducks in that game…
Its all about win and lose remember guys the match we won on Div 5 was it we won convincingly… We almost routed out from Div.5…But did the responsible people ever responds…anyone(player, management)…Its sad …Why this is happening???????????????? its been so many years…
