Cricket has dominated the nominations in the main four categories of the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum’s (NSJF) Pulsar Sports Award 2066.
National captain Paras Khadka has been nominated for the Best Player of the Year (Male); Nary Thapa for the Best Player of the Year (Female); spinners Rahul Kumar BK and Nischal Pandey for the Youth Player of the Year and coach Roy Dias for the Coach of the Year Award.
Cricket has five nominations in those four categories along with Karate.
Five nominees in each category were announced by the NSJF Player Selection Committee headed by Mahesh Acharya of The Himalayan Times and members are Binod Pandey of Nagarik, Prajeet Shakya of Gorkhapatra, Himesh Bajracharya of Kantipur and Ujjwal Acharya of Republica.
Sharad Vesawkar is one of the eight nominees for the Popular Player of the Year that is selected according to the SMS votes by people. The biggest sports award in the country also includes Lifetime Achievement Award, Special Award and Para-Athlete of the Year award.
Paras led Nepali cricket team to the title of the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 in Kathmandu during which he scored 250 runs and took a wicket. Later in the year, he also led the team to the finals of the ACC Trophy.
Nary was declared best bowler of the ACC Women’s Championship for taking 14 wickets where Nepal was placed third. Her 5/5 against Bhutan is the best bowling performance by any Nepali woman cricketer.
Nischal made headlines during the ACC U-16 Elite Cup taking 16 wickets in scoring 161 runs. He also became the first cricketer to score half-century and claim five wickets in a match during the event in which he won the Best Bowler and Man of the Series Award.
Rahul was man of the final for his seven wickets against USA in the WCL Div 5. He was the joint-leading wicket-taker with 12 wickets. He was again joint leading wicket taker in the ACC Trophy with eight wickets.
Dias has been nominated for his coaching to the senior team that won the WCL Div 5. He was also coach of the teams that reached the finals of the ACC Trophy and the ACC U-16 Elite Cup.

Can u tell me what sharad did to nepali team in last few tournaments? Man forget about the past because past is past..Once upon a time………..Making runs in worthless game is not sign of good player. I know sharad makes runs in those games, which were completely worthless.We need good player in one day cricket who scores runs in more than 90 strike rate…not like sharad, Mahesh and shakti scoring just 1 run in 50 balls and getting out putting team always in pressure. I am not hating sharad, but the way he plays.
I think u r getting selfish not me. U don wan to listen criticism of sharad. Its just like political leader of nepal, who tells that they are 100% right ..Be those who can accept the criticism rather than hail.
Finally, I am pleased to hear that Luke dias is leaving us. I think new coach will improve our batting lineup and removes slow-poison available in the team reconstructs our lineup.

oh really ,i’m not supporting anyone…just that i pledge you to support the team in bad times…and its not good to criticize a single player dude..everyone is responsible and specially CAN,what do you know about the players..where you in the ground to see what was the condition like.and how did they get out..nobody played batting single handly, even won one match against good teams,guys who were in ,got out in the wrong moments….
And talking about a single player,you cannot que his commitment for just one bad tournament,if you see his records and the games he played from the juniour to the seniour level his performance has been as consistent as anyone…i think you forgot the semis in ACC recently when he single handed won the game for use nearly scoring a century in 67balls against malaysia,,anyways bro…yes we know our team doesnt have the fire power…but for that how much preparations go behind the scene..? has there been enough matches played throughout the year, no matter how much you train in fitness..if you dont’ play matches …you cannot handle the pressure in matches,,,and cannot learn how to win? Also ,playing the same bowlers in nepal,and playing agast the same teams its not enought,Until our team doesn’t play against teams from abroad and good teams..we will never improve…so just to expect to win doesn’t make sense….what have you done in personal level…to help nepalcricket tht you go on crictizincing players only…plz let me know one thiing that you have done to help nepal cricket that i can appreciate…
Yeah, Sharad can’t be underestimated. He was in awful form in div 4 but just before that in kuwait, he was in top form. How can one forget of his contribution ( 99* off 66 balls) against a very strong Malaysian side that had beaten UAE and lost to Afganistan just by a run in their group stage matches. That was one of very few matches (almost nil) which Nepal won by bat. Our bowlers struggled to defend massive 272 but malaysia fell short by 8 runs in the end. And, u can’t call it past coz only 1 tournament has passed after it. Sharad may be temporarily lacking form but his class is permanent.
Hey man I am not blaming on sharad only. I just wanted to say that selector must select those players in accordance to game format. Mahesh, sharad and shakti are not for the one day game in my opinion…U can again give me same example of 67 ball 97 but that was rare case they play.
I agree with u that CAN didn’t do anything for development of cricket . I am a ordinary person outside the country, what can I do for team except support in game. being a supporter of nepali cricket, i don wanna hurt supporter there………….I am just expressing my feelings after loss….and man finally i like to tell u that history is only for winners and I want NEpal be a winner in any game it plays…….WE WANT THE SAME PROGRESS AS THAT OF AFGHANISTAN.

sorry fren, i’m a cricket lover as you as well..but im very close to few of the players in the national team,the only thing i want to say is Nepal has great potential to be a cricketing nation,but that wont happen very easily.Until proper management and support,players can only reach to a certain level with limited facilities and resources..after that if you need to compete in the top level..lot of things are to be improved.

ICC has recently announced future plan 4 odi n test matches.they r thinking of reducing overs of odi n no of teams in odi WC n increasing teams in T20 WC.Split innings of odi r under discussion.then i think odi ckt doesnt hav greater future.
So CAN should think of T20 rather than ODI as situation is such.lets see wat future brings bt support 4 home is always there n one day i will b able 2 c paras n his team mates playing with test playing nation live in tv n cheering in every ball.i hope so……
I have read all the above conversations & its sad that whoever is claiming to b nepali cricket lover clearly reflect hypocrisy…. as they lack the very basic spirit of sportsmanship —
cricket is where it is today becos of Players/ Coach and CAN — let us not abuse coach who has basically taught our national team to hold the bat — now he is leaving let him go and accept change gracefully…..
our govt. lacks funds to contribute to the development of cricket — Just appreciate the man who has got this international recognition to this field — all we can do is support and show solidarity —let us give time dont expect too much–
we can do much better if we stop pulling legs, abuse people holding international posts –we nepalese dont have the dignity to accept reality & look fwd to better future — let us support the team & CAN! Let them BE!
@ freelancer, I am not consonant with u bcoz our player have potential but they fail to convert this potential into game. If our top order gets collapsed middle order never backup the team that is our problem. Same team which easily beats America and Tanzania, why they easily get defeated in first attempt. If our player play with the exact potential, we definitely gonna beat any side.
