Nepal defeat Afghanistan, enter semi

Nepal confirmed a place in semifinal after beating arch-rival Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the ACC U-19 Elite Cup cricket tournament at AIT Ground, Bangkok on Friday.

Nepal bowled out Afghanistan for 125 runs in 42.3 overs and scored 127 for 4 in 26.4 overs for the comprehensive victory.

Pace bowler Avinash Karn set the tone taking a wicket in the first ball of the innings and Afghanistan batsmen never took off. Avinash followed by two more wickets while his opening partner Krishna Karki supported well with a wicket and disciplined bowling.

Avinash took the return catch offered by Afsar Khan, who had scored century against Thailand, on the first ball. Hashmatullah (3) holed out to mid-on off Krishna Karki in the fifth over.

Avinash, having changed his bowling end, got Younas Khan and Najibullah out to restrict Afghanistan at 24/4 in 10 overs. From then on, it was Afghani effort to score while Nepali bowlers bowled with disciplined to keep them restricted. Avinash to adjudged man of the match.

Pradeep Airee and Rahul BK claimed two wickets each while Krishna Karki and Bhuwan Karki took a wicket each for Nepal to end Afghanistan innings early enough for six overs batting before lunch. For Afghanistan Mohibullah Paak topscored with 30 and Rahmatullah Sahaq got 29.

Nepal lost Faizlur Khan, who had scored century two days ago, early but not before he hit two consecutive sixes. He made 14 and Nepal went to lunch at 39/1 in 6 overs. Nepal lost Sagar Pun (8) and Prithu Baskota (9) without much contribution but Subash Khakurel stayed long enough to build a good foundation. Subash scored 23 off 51.

Naresh Budayer then took charge in his hand, having survived when he was on 0 and 4. He remained unbeaten on 42 off 48 balls along with Pradeep Airee (10 off 13 balls) for the morale-boosting victory.

Nepal will now play hosts Thailand in the last league match at the same ground on Saturday.

“We bowled line to line and the spinners Bhuwan and Rahul did just the right thing. No doubt we would have struggled batting first because for 90 minutes in the morning the wicket was very difficult,” says victorious coach Jagata Tamata, “Batting we could have a little better but Afghanistan thought pace was the answer today when keeping wides down was more important.”

Really happy this time with the 11 men army and their historic performance………..who beat Afghanistan as we Giant Killers are known for. Very good bowling attack as well as great batting display, but still I think some top order batsman should be more patient. Boys it is just a preliminary gift for Nepalese, we need more……………ACC U/19 Trophy………..now please make some good plan and do very well for semis and grand finale. It is almost sure that our final is going to be with Afghanistan again. Hongkong must be beaten in semis, because we have to take revenge of last edition of Elite cup (2009).

So boys………..please do good………….good and only good………best of luck for next game…………..Lord Pashupatinath is with you and all 35 millions Nepalese pray with you.

    Jai Pashupatinath……………….Jai Nepal.

tnx dude. But blaming the toss for l0osing against a div 4 team. Isnt that litl shameful to a div 1 team acording to u, afterall they were “the only hot fav” -:p, nevrmind bro bt i wud lyk to add 1 thing. Nepal is the most sucesful asociate nati0n in U-19, as we have defeated 6 test playn nati0ns in WORLD CUP (S.A,pak etc) and we have won ACC ELITE CUP 4 times(afg havnt) and nepal have playd WC 5 times. So talkin abt U-19, Nepal is the most succesful asociate nati0n, afg is not even close to nepal. Afg hav participated in 1 youth WC thats it. And being a concious citizen of nepal, i was a bit unhapy wid ur c0ment khusal bro, which led to our dirty discusn. Nevr mind, and i thnk we r co0l now. Right??? -:) Gudnyt guys

Look at the picture, the Afganisthan U 19 captain looks like my uncle,he must be playing U-35,its useless ….wht should i say…you don’t even ta take tests to prove them they are overaged…just look at our captain prithu and the afghanisthan captain..they look like father and son…lol…anyways well done team nepal..keep it up

An optical angular illusion or the Afghan captain’s face is not photogenic enough(coupled with child faced Prithu , the contradistinction is palpable). In the Accmedia video’s in youtube the Afghan players looked pretty OK & young to me( including the captain), only that they are physically better built – a trait natural to Afghans.

sorry mr.reaz,ya on the built of afganis player, yest they are physically grown big ,but still i don’t agree tht most of them are U 19,coz the face always shows the age of a person, not the body, whatever …we wont’ complain,i hope we meet the afganis in final and prove them we are better than them in U 19 level .

Nepal is performing quite well in this tournament. Experiencing with the tough team BD, Nepal got lots of opportunity to learn something new……. and i think that helped a lot to all of the players. But looking their performance against BD where they lost heavily so i am not highly optimistic with this team, if Nepal Selected for the U-19 world cup: i doubt that Nepal’s performance would not be strong and convincing. Anyway i always wish Nepal win this trophy and do the best performance in the U-19 wold cup………………. Good Luck Nepal
    Go for the World Cup
