Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) dropped former captain Binod Das and named preliminary 18-member national squad on Tuesday for the upcoming ICC World T20 Qualifiers to be held in the UAE on March.
The CAN has called in Paresh Lohani in the preliminary squad.
Lohani, who was in the team for Pepsi World Cricket League Division 5 held in Kathmandu on February 2010 but pulled out his name from the team citing personal reasons, hadn’t made comeback in the national team since then.
According to the CAN, the 18-member squad will tour India for practice matches before the Qualifiers and the final 14-member squad will be selected after the India tour.
Paras Khadka is assigned as captain of the Nepali squad for the India tour. The 18-member team includes Gyanendra Malla, Prithu Baskota, Subash Khakurel, Basant Regmi, Binod Bhandari, Sharad Vesawkar, Sanjam Regmi, Pradeep Airee and Shakti Gauchan.
Likewise, Rahul Kumar Vishwakarma, Krishna Karki, Amrit Bhattarai, Anil Mandal, Avinash Karn, Mehboob Alam and Chandra Saud are included in the preliminary squad.

Our Coach always said that we need Fast bowlers..
He was also working for the same.
But when selection was made, we didnot see any new faces.
What we also need is strikers because we do have a good bowling attack .. But i dont think Sakti Gauchan is good for 20-20 format becoz of his batting style..
Ya ofcourse he is really a good alrounder nd been hero of Nepali team several times but has not performed good in 20-20 format..

Only 2 teams will participate in the worlcup, so qualifying for that will be really difficult..

Anyone can have a bad game and it does not mean that he is a bad player. And what are we even blaming players.Binod have played with so many players in the U-19 format who are now representing their country in the international cricket. He troubled most of them in the U-19 format but once coming to the senior side, it is whole different story. It is because we lack practice and team work and it is because we do not play much cricket and our board do not do anything about it. We play U-15, U-17 and then U-19 and that is the reason we do well in U-19 because all these young players are playing regularly for years. once we get into the senior side, we stop practicing coz that is the responsibility of CAN to conduct regular practice for players. For example, Sri Lanka used to play ranji trophy before getting to the international arena. Why are we not doing that. Munaf Patel was in Nepal once and our players were able to handle him pretty easily and now he is playing for India and giving results. It is only because of exposure to more games with tough teams. So, we need to improve the infrastructure for cricket in Nepal and have tournaments regularly and the team need to be playing cricket all around the world and throughout the year to get better results.
