Dassanayake’s contract extended for a year

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has extended the contract of coach Pubudu Dassanayake for a year.

“Dassanayake’s contract has been extended by a year,” CAN member Diwakar Ghale said. Ghale was also the manager of the team during the World Twenty20 Cup qualifiers in UAE where Nepal finished impressive seventh.

Dassanayake, a Sri Lankan Canadian, took charge of Nepal’s team for six months in September and his initial contract expired with the conclusion of the Qualifiers.

Dassanayake returned to Canada from UAE. “He will return Kathmandu after two weeks and sign the new contract,” Ghale said adding that he would also look after Under-16 team during the ACC U-16 Elite Cup.

Nepal’s skipper Paras Khadka hailed Dassanayake’s role in team’s success.

Under Dassanayake, Nepal played the SAARC U-15 T20 Cup, ACC T20 Cup and the Qualifiers. Nepal reached the ACC T20 Cup semifinal for the first time in three attempt and qualified to the Qualifiers.

Nepal will play the U-19 Asia Cup, ICC U-19 Youth World Cup, World Cricket League Division Four and ACC Elite Trophy later this year.
