Host SPA reaches quarters

Host Sudur Paschimanchal Academy (SPA) pulled off a 41-run victory over Siddhanath Multiple Campus on Wednesday to secure berth in the quarterfinals of the Hotel Devotee SPA Cup inter-college cricket tournament being held in Dhangadhi.

SPA elected to bat and put up 141/8 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Siddhanath was all out for 100 runs in 18.5 overs.

Openers Subendu Pandey (14 runs) and Jeevan Sunar shared a 35-run stand but SPA lost two wickets in quick succession. However, Sunar (31 runs) put up another 35-run partnership with Bhuwan Karki for the third wicket. Karki also scored 31 runs with three fours and a six. Arjun Chapagain and Sandeep Khadka chipped in with 12 and 13 runs respectively.

Rajendra Chand and Prakash Saud claimed two wickets each while Prakash Thapa and Dinesh Agri took a wicket each. Two SPA batsmen were run out.

In reply, Siddhanath failed to make a good start as it lost four wickets with only 18 runs on the board. Agri (21 runs) was the highest scorer for Siddhanath while Dhani Saud contributed 17 runs and Raghubir Sunar added 14 runs.

Man-of-the-match Bikash Bam dismissed four Siddhanath batsmen and received Rs 5,000.

Earlier, former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba formally inaugurated the tournament on Wednesday though it had already kicked off on Monday.
