Five-for-Rubina sets Nepal’s victory

rubinaRubina Chhetri bowled a sensational last over setting up Nepal’s 2-1 victory in a bowl-out over Singapore after the scores tied in the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship at the Selangor Turf Club, Malayasia.

When the right-arm medium pacer from Biratnagar was asked to bowl the last over, in which Singapore needed two runs for victory with five wickets remaining, hardly anyone had expected a miracle. But Rubina pulled out miracle giving away a run and grabbing five wickets including a hat-trick – the first for Nepal.

She bowled a dot in the first ball, grabbed a wicket each in next three, bowled a wide that tied the score, and grabbed two more in last two balls.

Nepal defeats Iran by 62 runs

nepalNepali women proved experienced and strong for debutant Iran in the opening match of the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship with a 62-run victory at the Bayemas Oval.

Neera Rajopadhyay was on top of her form scoring 39 off 58 balls with four boundaries to help Nepal score 109/3 in allotted 20 overs. Needing 110 for victory, Iran was bowled out for 47 in 15.4 overs.

Rekha Rawal was the pick of the bowler taking three wickets for 12 runs in four overs. Sharing the new ball with captain Ritu Kanaujiya, Rekha ensured early blow for Iran.

Her three wickets and a wicket for Ritu wrecked Iran making their score read 10/4 in 4.4 overs. Sonu Khadka grabbed two wickets giving away eight runs in her 3.4 overs while Neera and Ambika Budhathoki took a wicket each. Two of the Iranians bats-women were run out. Read More …

Maya Rawat wins Dashrath Award

Cricketer Maya Rawat of Kanchanpur was felicitated with Martyr Dashrath Chand Best Player Award in a ceremony in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Nepali gave away the prize. Maya, who scored 117 runs for the national cricket team during their triumph at the ACC U-19 Women´s Cricket Tournament in December, 2008 in Thailand. Read More …

ICC medals for 5 Nepali officials

International Cricket Council (ICC) has conferred five Nepali cricket officials by the ICC Centenary Medals for their long contribution in the development of cricket.

Those who received the medals are CAN president Binaya Raj Pandey, former vice-president TB Shah, secretary Shashi Dutta Pandey, vice-president Naresh Shrestha and vice-president Upendra Prasad Bhattarai. Read More …

3 Nepali Umpires in WCL Div VI

International Cricket Council (ICC) has named three Nepali umpires to officiate matches of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 tournament in Singapore.

Buddhi Bahadur Pradhan, Binaya Jha and Sanjay Gurung will officiate in the tournament that is a part of the 2015 World Cup with top two teams moving to Division 5 to be held in Nepal January next year. The Division 6 is scheduled from August 29 to September 5. Read More …

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) released a promotional music video to celebrate the ICC Centenary Year 2009 in association with Nepal Tourism Board (Nepal Tourism Board).

Squad named for ACC Women T20

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the 18-member preliminary squad from among the 25 players in the closed-camp training for the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship.

For the first time since Nepal began international participation, Nary Thapa will not be captaining the side as Ritu Kanaujiya has been named the captain for the side.
