FAN SPEAKS: A Fan’s Recommendations

By Yadumani Gautam
Looking back to our cricket team’s recent performance, it looks better. And it’s not only improving but also showing a light for the bright future.

Recently our national team was able to beat UAE. This was the great achievement of the year. This win will help to our cricket lover to forget loss at WCQS II. On the other hand our junior (U- 15) team gave a good start for the year by winning a U – 15 Asia Cup.

Now, by looking to these short of performance there are lots of things to be done. CAN should be serious about the cricket team. Till now we all know that Nepal doesn’t have a good facility in any kind. There are lots of things to be looked at without having a good facility our team has given a good performance regularly. But CAN should understand that this won’t last for a long time. CAN should look to these short of problem immediately. To get good result in future hard work should be done now.

First of all, board should look to our cricketing infrastructure. CAN should make cricket grounds which should be of international level. There were reports that one ground under ACC is under process. This will help our team in many ways. Our team can have a good practice. Not only this, after such infrastructure we can get chance to host international matches. Being one of the associated member of ICC and best of the Asian region we may get to host some international matches (ODI). For this, CAN should work hard and fulfill all of these dreams of cricket fan. Hosting ODI will give boost to our national team. This may help Kathmandu to develop as Sharjah, Toronto and Morocco. This will not only help for cricket but also increase in tourism.

Other important thing is that can must work on it to make a good sporting calendar. Although CAN has shown their calendar but it is not that effective enough. Calendar seems to be arranged by ACC only. It doesn’t contain equal amount of international exposure. Our national team does not have place to play international matches other than FTCT and ICC International Cup. As our team is in a developing process it should get enough number of international exposure. This calendar doesn’t have enough space for U – 19. All should understand that U-15, U-17 and U- 19 are the roots of the national team. If they get enough matches in this level they can use their experience in the national level.

Another important thing all the cricket lover is waiting for it to see our team playing other big tournament. Although our dream run for 2007 world cup has been shattered, we can look for other way out to take our team on the next stage. As first rule we have qualified for the Asia Cup, which is to be held in Pakistan. But the reports say that we can’t play that tournament. If this is right, then CAN should appeal to the right place either ACC or ICC if required. We hope that Mr. Shah being the vice-president of ACC he will make a way for our team to play this mega tournament.

We all know that we don’t have good domestic format and structure till now. The main route for the success of any team in international level in domestic level matches. So, we have a much gap between these two levels. So why can’t CAN work with BCCI to take our team to their domestic tournament. We all know that if we get a chance to play any domestic tournament in India our team will improve very much. As, now BCCI is starting a new domestic season, so this is the right time for our board to make an opportunity. This will help our team to analyze our self and work in towards our weakness.

Other CAN should now consternate in U – 19 level. Next year there will be the U- 19 World Cup. So we should prepare hard for that tournament. Last world cup we could not go to the next level but this time we should go ahead. In this regard board should talk to ACC. At the end of this year India is hosting a U- 19 level tournament among Asian test playing nations. Why can’t our board try to take our team to this tournament? This will give good exposure to our team. These all are the expectations of every Nepali Cricket lovers and fans. Hope CAN works in some of these steps.
